A couple whom I married many years ago from Broadway brought a
full meal to our house last night. We enjoyed each and every bite. I
was full after the meal and hoped there were left-overs left over. Yep!
She even made a Derby pie.
We invited my younger brother to the table since we hadn't seen
much of him for a few days. It was good having him with us and
updating one another on things going on for all of us. Since I was
tired, I went to bed early and slept all night long even when the
wind was blowing hard. I didn't know about it till I woke up and
then picked up limbs from the trees.
I need to diet again after so much food and so little exercise of late.
Maybe I need to stop the seconds within seconds and I need to
swallow the fact that I swallow way to many cokes. If I don't do
something now I will look like Fat Albert soon.
It has been good being back home after a hard week last week.
We've rested and done a few jobs here and there. One of the
things I did yesterday was to put Harold's obit in the Bowling
Green newspaper so some of his former members of a church he
served years ago might know of his death. When it came out today,
I sure was glad that I had done it. He loved Kerr Memorial and
Bowling Green. We love Bowling Green as well.
It is near my bed time again tonight so I'll be heading to bed so
we can get up to go to Nashville in the morning to see a couple
of doctor's. Nite-nite.

LOUD AND CLEAR
Harold had a great respect for Dr. W E Sangster who wasn't able to speak near
the end of his life due to an illness. How strange it is that Harold was in a very
similiar situation at the end of his life. Yet the two of them were alike when
I think of a quote (I don't have it all) that Dr Sangster said comes to my mind.
It went something like this:
"How sad it would be to not be able to speak about Easter because of not having
a voice, and yet, even sadder to have a voice to speak with and stay silent about
Easter."
Harold shouted EASTER at his Celebration of life last Friday night when those
there spoke about him and his Lord. Easter was echoing throught the songs.
speakers, sights and spirit of the service.
A Scripture comes to my mind: "We cannot but speak of that which we have
seen and heard." (Acts) Let us all speak loud and clear with our lives and lips
that "Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow.." Don't be mute. Be bold and get
the message told. Harold did!!

VERY TOUCHING
I was very touched as people passed by at Commmunion and touched
my hand, patted my back, winked and smiled at me. What a way of
saying that they were with me as I pass through the valley of the shadow
of death. They gave me comfort in so many ways.
My wife and I are about to go to Barnes & Noble since our home air
conditioner isn't working. Maybe we can cool down while we read,
drink (me) coffee and see friends. I might even do what I sometimes
see when I'm there, men snoozing in their sofa chairs. Why not join
the club of comfort and chill!
We have thought of Harold and the family often today. We pray that
they (family) and able to relax and rest after a hard week. Who knows,
Harold just might be playing the piano and singing with mom & dad
as they celebrate a grand reunion. If not that, Harold just might be
talking everyone's ears off since he hasn't been able to talk much for
many weeks. If not, maybe, just maybe, Harold is having a heavy
conversation with Christ about something. Whatever it is, I'm sure
of this, Harold is home in Heaven and has no more pain and no more
tears. For that, I sure am gratefull to God!

HOT-HOUSE
Our air-conditioner isn't working so we're in the hot-house!! But that is
fine since we're home. We are all tired & sleepy so we all have taken naps.
All else is well back in Bowling Greenn as far as I can tell.
I may attend all the services Sunday at Broadway just to stay cool. Or, I
might go to Barnes & Noble to stay cool. Whatever, wherever, I just want
some rest. I can sleep in the services while Rick preaches or something.
What I really want to do is worshp the Lord in the sanctuary and offfer
thanks for blessing after blessing this week.
This is like me, short. It's too hot to think or type so I'm out of here!

The Station
I went to Barnes & Noble to relax awhile this morning drinking coffee and
reading. I got off in a corner and spent some down time to get me back up.
The Lord gave me guidance as I walk throught the valley of the shadow of
death. I found comfort in Christ as I read, reflected, prayed & thought of
all that's coming up over the next few days.
There is so much to do and so many things we want to say as family and
friends gather to celebrate Harold's life. We will all need an extra dose
of Divine comfort and bidding. We have laughed and cried at our house
and in our hearts over the past hours. We have looked backwards and we
have looked forward. We have found rest and we have been stressed but
most of all, best of all,we have God's Word to be faithful in tough times.
While we pack up for our journey, we remember how Harold packed his
spiritual suitcases long ago so that he would be ready to catch that Gospel
train when it pulled into the station. May we all learn a lession from someone
who has aready arrived at his final resting place, the arms of Almighty God.
Now, Harold waits for all of us to come home, come home., all ye who are weary,
come home. The porch light is on and the Father waits at the door.

JOURNEY WITH JAMES
I knew that when I sat down out back on our deck a few minutes ago
that the first thing I needed to do was to turn to the Obituaries in the
newspaper. When I saw the page the first person's picture I saw was
that of my twin, James Harold Coomer, age 67. Tears fell down on the
page almost hitting what was written. After catching my breath, I read
it. It was well written about someone whose journey is completed. So
I say, Well done, Harold, well done.
As I read all the things family and friends say about Harold through
emails and facebook, I'm reminded how Harold had such an impact
upon so many lives, in so many ways. Again, well done, Harold, well
done. I have no doubt that his life will touch lives for years to come
as others remember how he said or did something for them through
out the years, mostly the ones where he strugged to survive whatever
came his way. I know that his twin brother is seeking to survive all
that has come my way, and Harold has shown me how to run (walk)
the race.
One of these days the two of us will be together once again. Until then,
I must do my best because Harold was always asking me how well I
was doing. It wasn't about Harold, it was all about someome who has
walked the journey by his side as a twin brother I have many more
miles to go, but I know I can make it if I follow in the footsteps of one
who walked in the foot steps of another person, Jesus Christ.

FOR THE FIRST TIME
When I woke up this morning, I realized that this is the first day of my life without my twin.
Harold has run the race, finished the course, and is in Heaven for eternity. No more pain, no more waiting, and no more wondering. The journey has been completed.
One of these days my journey will be through. Harold and I will be together again. Until then, I'll always keep many memories of my womb-mate tucked away down deep in my heart.
Thanks goes out to our family who has been faithful in being bonded together during these tough times. Harold would be so very proud of each one of us. While we aren't finished taking care of things with Harold's death, we celebrate his journey with us and give God the glory.

THUD!!
Late yesterday afternoon I heard a loud THUD! from the garage. I took
a quick look but didn't see what it could be. Then, right after my wife and
daughter drove into the garage after arriving home from going to see my
twin, Harold, THUD!! the Garage door went off the track & we couldn't
get out until today.
Today is Saturday. Today is the day before Father's Day. Today is the
day when all garage door compaines are closed until Monday morning.
Thus, today became the day I took the garage door down so a brand new
one would be my Father's Day present next week. We had talked about
getting a new one one of these days, today is that day when we decided
that next week would be really great.
I'm was already sore from removing a bookcase from the kitchen Thursday.
I was already sore from moving books from bookcase to another bookcase.
I was already sore from all those things as well as a couple of others. I had
planned to get a haircut and goes to Barnes and Noble this morning. But I
was locked in with no way to drive off into the sunrise. The haircut and a
trip to Barnes & Noble will have to wait till next week. I'm too sore to even
move my fingers to type this Blog.
That's the up's and down's of life I guess. It could of been worse. Atleast
the cars are still safe and sound in the garage on a very wet day. My next
job will be to guard the garage to keep someone from stealing somthing
from it. I think my Father's Day present is hidden out there somewhere.

OFF DUTY
Today was a day of doing nothing if I could get away with it. Well,
I did pretty well with my plan. I went to Barnes & Noble and spent
the entire morning reading a new book and visiting with a
few friends. I think there were 12 of us at one time chatting away &
drinking coffee. These are people I've come to know by being there as
often as I do. A couple of even shared some pretty
heavy stuff with me as they have sought help in dealing with some things.
I take that as a compliment that they think enough of me to try to help them.
This afternoon, I sat outside and read until a drop or two of rain fell on my head
and sent me inside. That's when I took a nap. And then the weather alarm sounded
off loud and clear as a wake up call. I got up & unplugged it & went back to sleep.
Can't keep John L. Jr from getting in has afternoon nap!
I think I will watch the hockey game on tv until bedtime. After all, I'm off duty!
(till the boss sends an alarm to get up & get going)

A PERFECT FIT
When we discovered that the space for the new fridge was too tight to
work, I knew that something had to give. Today I removed the book
case next to the fridge space and the fridge fits just fine. The next job
will be finding or making a space for the books that were there. Both
of us had to work hard to get the job done but it is the perfect fit, just
like the two of us.
I also discoved that I put the seat on backwards on the excective chair
yesterday so I did it over today. It works well now whenever we need
to adjust the back of it. If I had read the instructions I might of gotten
it right the first time. Maybe.
Needless to say, I'm tired after two day's of hard work around the
house. I hope I can have Wednesday off to go off to Barnes and Noble
to read and relax. That's another perfect fit.

FIT TO BE TIED
We bought a new fridge for the kitchen with thoughts of placing the older one
out in the garage as a backup. When the new one arrived yesterday, it wouldn't
fit in the space where it should go. We've tried a couple of things and have yet
to fit the fridge. Therefore, we're fit to be tied.
Since we slept on it(not the fridge), maybe we will come to a conclusion today
as to what to do. -1. send it back (if they take it), -2. remove a bookcase next
to the space, -3. cuss, -4. Let it hang out into the kitchen and say that it is the
latest fad, -5. blame each other for the big mistake, -6. put the new one out in
the garage!!!!
We thought we had the measurements correct but we didn't realize that the
space isn't exactly correct. It's not us, it's is the fault of the fellow who built
the space in the first place. Thus saith the man who just said that.
Please pray for me & my wife because we're going to have to decide what to
do now that we're fit to be tied.

CHANGE IS IN THE AIR
When I went into the Men's restroom at Barnes & Noble Saturday,
I saw a sign saying, Baby Changing Station. A minute of two after
that a man carried a baby in his arms into the rest room. When I
asked him if he was changing babies, he looked at me like I'm some
crazy old man. Why would he do that? I'm a crazy almost old man!
Speaking of change, my wife and I changed the roll top desk from
one room to another a day or two ago. It had been in the Living
Room but now it is in our home-office where I work often. This
afternoon we worked with putting things in place. I would place
something in one place and she would place it somewhere else.
I knew she would do that! She always does, so why expect it not
to happen!
The wind blew hard enough this afternoon to change some things
out in the back yard. Tree limbs where scattered everywhere so
I picked them up while it wasn't so hot. I may be dumb, but I'm not
stupid! I'm thankful that there wasn't more damage done. It even
hailed on Sunday!

WHAT A DAY
I was up early so I had a couple of cups of coffee before giving the garden
some water. I also watered the flowers before coming inside to rest After
all, today is my Barnes & Noble day and senior day at Kroger. If I can get
on out of here before Mrs. C can catch me, I'll head on over to B&N before
they even open. (kidding)
We had a great pot-luck (13 of us) with our Growth Group from Broadway
yesterday. The fellowship & food was wonderful. I ate far too much but I
tried to be nice to those dear souls who went to all that trouble to make all
that food. The green beans were really good (my wife took them) & the
deserts topped everything off.
Since it will be hot today, I know I do have to stay out of the heat as much
as I possibly can. The heat burns me up! Ouch!! Drains my get-up-& go so
that I can't get going. I'm glad I can do all I do day after day.
Speaking of today, have a great one & stay cool.

SO - SO
My wife and I have had a few day's "home alone" since our daughter went to the
Indy 500. Yesterday we attended the 8:15 service at Broadway & then the 10:30
service at Greenwood (satalite with Broadway). Both services were a blessing to us
as we expected them to be.
Following worship, we ate at Logan's Roadhouse and then watched the 500 on tv
in our nice cool, comfy chairs at home sweet home. What a race! Won in the last
seconds due to a wreck by the leader till then! She napped while I read a few more
pages of The Help.
Today she went shopping while I stayed home. We had planned on going out to
eat at The Olive Garden but ended up eating at Fazoli's instead. It was a good
meal without a crowd to have to deal with. Now we are waiting for Jennifer to
arrive home tonight after a long time being gone.
We meet to eat again Tuesday with our Growth Group as our last get-together
for awhile. It will be pot-luck with the 13 people (couples plus one) bring food
by using a letter from the word GROWTHS. We have G so Green beans will be
what we take although I thought Grits would work well. When we did this the
last time, we were all amazed how how well it worked. I hope we see success
again tomorrow.
I haven't been to Barnes & Noble of late so I need to go Wednesday if I can
do so. Since it has just been the two of us, Barnes & Noble had to be put "on hold"
till I can get back there. Besides, being "Home Alone" was well worth it if I say so
\myself. SO-see, I said SO.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY
Today I moved some things around in our garage so we can put the fridge
that is in the kitchen in that spot when we get a new fridge for the kitchen.
I moved this and that to put that and this there. After that, there was a
need to clean out our fireplace in an effort to rid of some strong smells. So,
I moved some things outside to clean and fix and then I cleaned inside the
fireplace before bring the outside stuff inside to put back in place. Then I
had to clean up the mess I made cleaning up the fireplace. Got it? I did, I
got hot & dirty and needed a shower so I would smell better than what I
had just cleaned up.
After all my work, I laid down on the bed to watch the last Oprah show
but I feel asleep & missed it. Maybe I can watch a repeat at 9:00 if the
storms don't demand all my attention. I have our emergency bag ready
with some things we might need in case of the storm. I just wonder how
three people & a dog can fit in the same tub with the emergency bag and
two purses & no telling what else. I may just go low in hopes of not going
high.
I doubt I get a good night's sleep tonight while watching the weather.
That's why I took that nap I guess. May the Lord bless & Keep you safe
& sound.

& sound.

THIS BLOG'S FOR YOU
My older brother told to me to get back to blogging. So, this blog's for you big brother.
I want to thank you for all you mean to me and so many others. I want to thank you
for always taking good care of others. I want to thank you for being willing to go the
2nd mile & more to be there for someone in stress. I want to thank you for showing
such love to Linda & your family. I want to thank you for needed nudges when we
needed to say or do something. I want to thank you for birthday cards to me when
I failed to get you one (I couldn't remember you last name).
This Blog's for you Kenneth. Keep doing what you've always done because it means
so much to me. And, Linda, thanks for all you do too.
By the way, did I tell you thanks & that I love you?

CATCHING UP
I have been busy doing so many things that writing a Blog has been hard. I preached at the Retirement Village last Tuesday and have been working with getting ready to lead a six week Bible study starting next Tuesday. Plus, I have been busy with house - hold duties as I attempt to assist my wife, besides, she made me! I'm kidding. I know that she has way too much to do all by herself. I am reading a new book by Richard Paul Evans, Miles to Go, that is the 2nd of 4 books. Thus far I'm finding this book to keep my attention. I was going to see Nicholas Sparks today at a Book Fest here in Bowling Green but I ended up at Barnes and Noble where I read and drank coffee with some friends. I want to travel to see my twin soon. He is out of the hospital and is showing some slight improvement following a fall a few weeks ago. We're gratefull to see him getting better. We're also gratefull for all the people who ask about Harold and/or write him. Prayer's are being answered, so keep praying for him. I'm helping with the 8:15 service each Sunday again and am blessed in doing so. I guess I'm too much like my father. Like father - like son. Have a Holy Week next week as we approach the celebration of Easter.

AUNT MYRA
I preached Aunt Myra's funeral yesterday at the church where I took Janice
to be my wife 42 years ago. I told them that I got two mother-in-law's, my
wife's mother and my wife's Aunt Myra. She was just like a second mother
for Janice and her sister Wilma.
I even sang: "Aunt Myra, Aunt Myra, my herats on fire for Aunt Myra..." We
got a good laugh out of that. Our daughter shared some thoughts about how
she though Aunt Myra did magic because she seemed to show up almost
anywhere, any time. She was always there with her sweet smile and her
sweet spirit. Wilma shared about Aunt Myra's Christmas dinners in their
basement year after year and how she had so much good food.
It was a high honor to preach about an angel named Myra. It is also a
high honor to still be married to Janice Kay Addington Coomer.

TAKING THINGS EASY AROUND HERE
I have enjoyed having an afternoon at home today. Rather than going to
Barnes & Noble, my wife went and I watched UK-FL play basketball. It
was great seeing UK win the championship.
I have read, played with the dog, taken a nap and been on the computer
as my way of taking it easy around the house. I have an idea that there
will be much to do this week, so I'm getting ready for it all. I know of a
couple of jobs that need my attention and I'm certain a certain person
will provide me with her list for her him (me).
We had a good time at church today. Jennifer sang in the 9:30 service
and I served Communion at the 8:15 service. We went out to eat and
then I headed home to watch the game.
I'm listening to classical music in my study while writing this and
catching up with people through emails and chats. It is a nice way
to end a good day. Good day (night) to you.

"TIME - OUT"
I went to Barnes & Noble for a couple of hours this morning to relax some.
After a very busy day yesterday, I needed a "time out" to take things easy.
I read a number of pages in a mystery that I'm into. I also read several
pages in a book by Joyce Carol Oats about the sudden death of her dear
husband, and I read a few pages of a new book by Suzi Orman on how
to handle money matters. I practiced what she preaches by not buying
her book. I will read whenever I'm bak at Barnes & Noble and finish it.
After two hours, I knew I needed to return home because my wife was
in need of our car to go places I didn't care to go with her (kroger, drug
store, etc). I was right about not going since my body yelled at me to
take it easy. My body was right. I'm tired,
We have to go to Nashville Friday even if we were just back from being
in Louisville yesterday. I'll take a book to read while my wife does what
ever it is that she does there. (doctors) I might even slip in some snoozing
out in the crv with soft musicc on the radio. Talk about "time-out", that's
the real deal.

"THANK GOD, I'M FEE!"
Dr Fee released me from having to see him again where he works. My e-ray's
showed that my broken foot has healed. Dr. Fee attends the same church we
attend, so I hope only to see him there from now on.
I stopped by Barnes & Noble on my way home around 4:00 for coffee and to
read from three books I'm reading whenever I go there, which is often. It
was relaxing to get caught up on the three books and head home around 5:00.
I am amazed at how many times I see the same people there again and again.
While I don't know all their names, I know their faces and give them a nod or
brief greeting. The servers have my coffee ready before I can even get to
order it because they know my face and my order. Most of the time I pay the
exact amount in change since I know the cost ahead of time. That is nice of
them to treat a customer so well.
So I am celebrating being free from Dr. Fee and that red cast. I just hope I
don't go out and break a leg!

WOK OF WOK!
My wok won't work when we want a wok to work well. I wish my wok would
work well when I want wok food. It's just my that my wok won't work
well. Does the wok work well when we plug it in? Well! My wok is working
well now that I have it plugged in. It's a wonder wok!
Does your wok work well? Lot's of wok to when you want your wok to
work well.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
Little RED RIDING Hood is the name we've given to our crv. Since we
be riding in it we hope everything under the hood will be in great shape.
LRH is in he garage waiting to go for a ride to church & out to eat in the
morning. The sun is to shine again they say. Hope they know what they
are talking about.
Lazy is the word for our house today. We've rested for the most part
after a hard day yesterday. I've read some and taken a couple of very
short naps.
Now that we have LRH, we plan to go see my twin next week and my
wife wants/needs to see her sister while we're there if possible. I see
my Doctor about how I'm doing after the cast came off of the broken
foot. Good, I hope.

STAYING INSIDE ON SATURDAY
I thought that when I went to bed last night I'd have a name for our
CRV when I awoke this morning. Well, I don't. Not yet. But I'm sure
I will soon. I've stayed inside because of the rain except to take it
across the street for a 83 neighbor to see. He was coming over in the
rain to see it so I took it to him instead. He approves of the car and
the color. I dried the CRV off when I got in the garage again.
We're tired after a very busy day yesterday. My wife is taking a
long nap. Our daughter is sleeping. I'm the only one up and about.
Although nap time sure sounds good on a wet Saturday afternoon.
I had planned to go to Barnes & Noble for coffee and book reading
but put that off till tomorrow after the UK game. By the way, I
might haave to miss the 9:30 service Sunday to head home since
the game is on at 11:00 our time. I sure hope they do better than
UL did today. They lost in the last seconds.
Since I'm sleepy I'm about to head to bed or the lazy-boy for my
afternoon nap. Maybe this time I will come up with a name for
the CRV. Who knows?

A DONE DEAL
We bought a 2007 cherry red CRV today after awhile of looking and
looking. It feels so gooooood to have this behind us atlast. Of all the
many that we tested, this one was the one we wanted and needed the
most. It is in the garage by another CRV and looks right at home.
Now we hope we can get some other things done that have been "on
hold" far too long.
We always name of cars as a way of giving thanks for having them.
The last two were Doxology 1 & Doxology 2 to express giving our
thanks. I'll sleep on it tonight and hope to have a name when I
wake up in the morning. It's not fire-engine red. It's prettier
that that, I think.
Since I'm starving, I'm off to fix pizza for the family and hope the
evening is restfull for us. You too.

SLINKY
I have a Slinky on my desk that I play with at times. I enjoy seeing it
roll down several steps. I enjoy watching our dog trying to figure out
what to do with it. Chase it? Run from it? Bark at it? My Slinky coils
up and then stretches if I pull it just right.
I wonder if I'm a Slinky. I roll down steps whenever my balance is
messed up. I coil up and hide. I stretch my short body at times in
an effort to limper up. Just don't push or pull too much because I
just might snap!!
My Slinky doesn't have a name. I am thinking about calling it Wire.
After all, that's all it is. Just wire. Wire and I are alot alike, we both
go HEY-WIRE! You know what? I'm going to put Wire away because
he is beginning to get on my nerves.

CARING-BRIDGE
Caring-Bridge is a wonderfull way to keep informed about someone
who is sick and to express your thoughts to them in a note to them.
Right now my twin brother is being blessed by Caring-Bridge as
people from places far and near express themselves to Harold and
Trudy. I have tried to to say something to them during the days
of tough, tough times. Perhaps you have as well and for that I'm
am gratefull as are Harold and Trudy.
The sad thought is that we meet people face to face everyday who
need a caring-Bridge offered to them in their tough times. A word
or a smile can lift up their drooping spirits even though you might
not even be aware of what you just said or did for them. It is a
gift of grace. It is a gift of peace.
If you care about others, let them know in some small way that
you do. They will be blessed and so will you. I know I am.

THE CRATE
After fixing eggs & toast for our daughter this morning, I took it on a tray to
her room. After awhile I wondered where her dog, Derby, was. When I was
able to get to her room, there he was up on her bed licking the plate clean.
Just as I was about to get after Derby, she told me she had finished cleaning
the plate already. She then took hold of her dog and put him in his crate. The
way she looked at me, I thought she was going to grab me and put me in mine!
I ran, well almost, as fast as I could and sat down to read the newspaper. That
was a close one if I say so myself, which I just did, didn't I.
Derby knows he is in big trouble whenever he ends up in the crate. He can't
get a free pass or pass go untill she tells him he can get out. After she left to
go to work, I came to the rescue and let him out to be free, free atlast. Now
we boys have to be on the watch because my daughter's mother didn't leave
the house. She is still her and she may be watching. Talk about being put in
a crate! "I'm in the crate-house now......" "Help! Help! Can you let me out of
here!!" It's nor great being in this crate!!!

"I'M BACK!"
I'm back at Broadway serving communion at the early service. It was
nice to be back with some people who have become so very special to
me. Many of those there gave me a warm welcome back. That was
so nice of them to do. I told them they were missed as well by myself.
Following the first service, I attended the second service with my wife.
We were blessed with the songs, sermon and spirit which stirred our
souls.
This afternoon I had a nice nap, read two news papers and played
with Derby (dog) inside and outside. I am re-reading a book about
a pastor I heard when I was a child, Dr. Williaam Sangster. I was
with our family at Lake Junaluska. I never will forget how he was
such a powerfull preacher. All ministers can learn a great deal by
reading what he wrote or by hearing him preach. I have three of
his sermons on tape and listen to them whenever I can.
The Oscars are on tonight so I guess I'll watch them with my wife.
I like to hear what the winners have to say. It will be the same old,
same old stuff. But it is still fun.
I better get back to my lazy-boy before Derby gets it before I do.

WATCH IT!
My wife and I went car shopping this afternoon and found out that
others had the same idea. The lot was full of cars & people. We
drove on off knowing we wouldn't deal today. Maybe Monday.
Everywhere we went, every place was full of people out and about.
The sun and warmer weather helped get people out of cabin
fever.
We went to Kroger where I watched people. An old man drove
into a handicap spot but it took him three tries to do it. Then
it took him almost 10 minutes to get in the store. Most likely he is
still in there after 2 hours. Poor man. Someone needs to take his
t-bird away.
UK won a game today and that made my day. I was born in
Lexington and root for UK all the time. I hope they can keep
it up. We shall see soon enough.
I hope to be back at Broadway for the early service Sunday.
It's has been since Christmas since I was there. My foot
seems stronger (not the smell) so here goes, one step at a
time.

The Pastor
I spent some time at Barnes & Noble this morning before going to the
library to return some books. While I was at B&N, I bought a brand
new book by Eugene Peterson, The Pastor. Even thought I'm retired,
I thought this would be a great read.
Peterson shares some thoughts about his many years as a pastor in
the book. It has already brought back many memories of my ministry
as a pastor, the good, the bad a nd the ugly. I know I will be blessed
by reading this 400 page book again and again. Peterson is one of my
favorite writers. I have most of the books he has published and re-
read them often.
Peterson says that too many ministers are nor pastors at all. They
are preachers but not good at being a pastor to/for their people.
He also says that we pastors don't stay long enough in the communities
where we serve. We want bigger, better churches and more money.
I agree with what Peterson has to say. I'm ashamed to say that I
have wanted bigger and better churches and more money. I have
had all three across the years and wish I had stayed longer at some
of the churches I served rather than moving on. If I had it to do all
over again, I would want to stay longer and do much more than I
have in the past.
I thank God for calling me into the ministry many, many years ago.
I hope I was both a good preacher and a good pastor to the glory
of Almighty God.

SILLY STUFF
After such a full day yesterday, my wife and I have been lazy all day today.
We didn't do much of anything because we needed naps and just to be slow
pokes. I'm proud of us. I didn't even go to Barnes & Noble. Maybe some
time Friday if I can while my wife goes somewhere else doing things.
I went over to see an older couple this morning and had a good visit with
them. We always seem to see who can out-do the other in telling things.
It is relaxing fun and fellowship every time I drop in on them. I told
that if they watched out their window they could see me walking on water
just like Jesus. They laughed and said they have seen a few Baptist do
walking on water. I told them that's why they immerse, they fall into the
deep end while we Methodist know where the rocks are. They made me
leave! (not really)
One friend called me on his way to Lowes and said he was going to get
some gopher wood for his boat with all this rain and wanted to know
if I needed some too. I thanked him for calling and said I already had
built my big boat. He hung up on me. (kidding)
Enough of this silly stuff, I've got to go check on my boat before the
rains come down harder. Anyone seen Noah?
We didn't do much of anything because we needed naps and just to be slow
pokes. I'm proud of us. I didn't even go to Barnes & Noble. Maybe some
time Friday if I can while my wife goes somewhere else doing things.

GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS
I've got some good news and I've got some bad news. The good news is that
my wife and I never argued all day long while on an all day trip to Nashville
and back. The bad news is that we didn't talk to one another all day long. I'm
just kidding. We had a very good day all day long. Even she will agree with me,
I think. I'm almost sure.
The other good news is that my twin was moved to the first nursing home he
had planned on going to when he got of the hospital. It will be more of what
he needs and the family wanted. I'm not sure just when we will be able to go
see Harold, but sure hope it will be soon. Since Harold was my womb-mate
many, many years ago, I want to see him in his new room. But I don't want
to be his room-mate again. He snores too much and too loud.
My body tells me that bed-time is drawing near. Now that is really good
news! I won't forget to leave the porch light on just in case you drop by.
Turn it off though before you go to bed. Thank you and good night.

APPOINTMENTS
Since my wife and I have three appointments in Nashville Wednesday,
were trying to relax some today to be ready for a long day tomorrow.
We have to be at the first appointment by 8:45 so we will have to be
up and at it good and early.
One of the things I like about a long day in Nashville is having so many
places to choose from when we eat. I like Cracker Barrel myself but I
am sure she will have something to say about where we end up going.
That's fine with me as long as I get fed before the trip back from the far
country to the promised land.
I take a book to read while I'm waiting for her to be through with her
appointments because I can read several pages if not the entire book
before she shows up. I also enjoy watching people pass by or simply
resting up before getting back behind the wheel to head home.
The weather looks like it will be nice for our all day out and about. I
am glad for that. I hate driving on snow and ice and in the rain so
sunshine do your thing and shine on, shine on because I've got places
to go, people to see and things to do before night time.

POSITIVE CHANGES
This morning I escaped doing house work with/for my wife and went to my
hide-out, Barnes & Noble, where everybody knows your name, to read &
drink coffee. I even behaved by not having a muffin. I had a cookie instead.
I'm kidding. I didn't eat anything there at all. I enjoyed a quite morning of
kicking back and resting up.
Yesterday, I learned that a small country church I once pastored burned
down. I have many memories of serving Stone's View UMC for a year in
1968, 43 years ago. I served five churches at one time while attending
Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro. Stone's View was one of the
five. My prayer is that God sustain them in their loss.
My twin brother is still in the hospital following a fall and a stroke. He is
showing slow improvement with a long, long way to go. My heart hurts
for Harold whenever I think of him. May God bless his family as they
cope with his condition.
There are things that I must attend too before the day is gone so, I'm
gone.

ON THE GO
Since my wife didn't sleep well last night, she didn't go to church this
morning. I went and slept well through the sermon. Not reaaly, it
was a great service. I could use a nap now though but have to go
to a funeral home instead.
My daughter and I attened worship & then had a date at Steak &
Shake. We had a good time being together without anyone else.
(sorry mom) Afterward I went to Barnes & Noble to read and drink
coffee by myself. I'm home now watching ket about a 111 year old
woman who is a member of First UMC, Campbellsville where I
once was pastor. Lera Williams always kidded me about having
a birthday a few days before mine and dared me to catch up with
her. I declined. Still do.
Well, I have to go out again with my wife this time. It's a date
I'm glad to keep. (should make up for what I said earlier.)

SAT-DAY
I had wanted to go to Barnes & Noble this morning but ended up getting
a hair cut instead. I had to wait for three boy's to get their hair cuts so
I just chilled in my chair and listened to conversations. It was a hoot.
All three were texting while they were waiting at one time or another.
Mom sat there with them ignoring them for the most part. I asked one
13 year old boy if he was going to get a shave too, he just looked at me
as if I were spaced out or something.
This afternoon was spent watching UK-SC basketeball and taking a
short snooze. I have to visit a funeral home Sunday afternoon for a
young man who died of a heart attack. His Grandfather was a dear
friend of mine. He died a couple of years back. It is so sad to see such
a young life gone so quickly and unexpectantly.
This next week is going to be busy for us with trips to Nashville and
possibilty Louisville as well as Somerset. I'm glad I can go as much
and as well as I do. I took it easy today knowing I can't afford to
over-do.
I'm tired tonight and heading to bed to read before going to sleep.

MEET TO EAT
I'm driving for the first time in a long time to have breakfast with
a couple of buddies. I just hope they will buy my breakfast because
I had a birthday or because they will be so glad to see me. I'm
real hungry this morning if they are buying.
I'm in a hungry-hurry so I have to rush off before they call and
say they can't make it. Food, here I come!!

THE JOURNEY ISN'T FAIR
There is a chapter in the book Hither & Yon by Becca Stevens that speaks to my
soul this morning. The chapter simply says that the journey isn't fair. We've all
said or thought that at one time or another, for one reason or another. Right
now my twin brother and his family are struggling with his stroke and fall a few
day's ago. Why this? Why Harold? Why both things? Why one step forward and
two steps back? And I ask, why not me instead of Harold?
I may be wrong, but I think if Harold could say something about all of this he
would say he is in the hands of the Almighty and the helping hands of family
and friends and that will be strengthened by this struggle and so should we.
Harold has come a long, long way on his journey to recover again and again.
He hasn't given up yet. So, why now? And us? What about us and our journey?
Why the journey isn't fair, it's the journey we're each on. Walk forward in faith
and keep going, climbing, searching, praying until our journey is over. For now,
keep looking forward and live in love for life because most of the journey is well
worth it all.
As you journey, keep the SON in your eye's even when the sun isn't shinning.
That's what I want to do and what my twin brother would want you to do.

WEDNESDAY WORDS
I went to Kroger today with my wife to do some shopping. I had shaved right
before leaving, but when she met me at the car I had grown a beard. It was a
slow go. But I give her credit for getting the job done, When we arrived home,
I unloaded the car and the stocked the shelves while she rested. She must of
hid the M&M's though. Not to worry, Detective Preach will seek & find the lost
so I can save them from getting lost forever and ever. Amen.
I took a nice nap, read some outback on the deck and visited with a friend before
coming back inside. All in all, it's been a good day. I want to go to Barnes & Noble
next & read a real book before they all turn into Nooks or some of the other
electronic devices. Maybe I can there before the week is over if I'm a good boy.
Well, I'll give it a try.
My thoughts and prayers are for Harold moment by moment that he survies
a stroke and fall. I can't get him out of my mind since I love him like a brother.
I love all my brothers but don't tell them I said it.
Peace and prayers.

AS I SEE IT
I've been doing light yard work (picking up sticks, etc) today as a
way of relaxing after my trip to Louisville yesterday. I've been
tired today and have even slipped in some sleep along the way.
Wednesday will be another busy day for us and I am trying to
milk this for all I can get.
I'm encouraged after seeing Harold (twin) yesterday. He was
in a good mood for the most part even though he was tired and
wondering what was going on. Time and prayers can bring him
better days if he keeps on improving.
Seeing my twin as he is reminds his twin that I need to take
better care of myself in every way. I need to drop some pounds
and I need to spend more time with my wife. I know I am going
to give it more attention if I can.
I plan to watch UK play basketball before much longer and I
hope to have a restfull night. That's it as I see it.

I SAW A MIRACLE TODAY
I was astonished at the difference my twin showed today when I visited
him in the hospital. He smiled & laughed (though muted). He watched
my every move and that of my younger brother who was with me.
Harold has a long way to go, but if he does as he is now, he will be able
to defeat defeat once again.
His family is also astonishing in the way they are dealing with this very
difficult situration. Their faith and willingness to walk the 2nd mile is
so impressive to me.
I praise God that today I saw a miracle with my very own eyes as
I looked into eyes of my twin brother who is showing us to never,
never, give up.

TWINS
Two of my three brother's sent me the very same Birthday card this
week. My brother in Louisville sent his to me first. My brother here
in Bowling Green sent the second card. The moment I saw the second
card I realized that they matched. They are twin cards to a twin. It
in pretty amazing that they did such a thing. It is also pretty amazing
that they both forgot to put money in with their cards. Maybe next
year they will remember, but I think it would be pretty amazing.

BIRTHDAY BASH
Yesterday was a very good day as I celebrated my 67th Birthday. My wonderfull
wife and I went to Cracker Barrel for brunch before stopping at Barnes & Noble
for a couple of hours. Then last night she prepared a great meal and german
chocolate cake. My youngest brother joined the celebration where I reminded
him he has a Birthday the 19th. He changed the subject. Smart little cookie.
I need to rest today after such a busy day yesterday. Maybe my age is catching
up on me, right brother Ken?
My foot still hurts some after getting the cast off a few day's ago. I have to
walk with caution so that I won't re-injure it again. It feels so good having
the cast off after six weeks! I drove yesterday for the first time in awhile and
my wife told me I need to take it easy. I heard her and did better. Thank you,
Ms. Dasiy.
I was ready fo bed last night after such a great day. I didn't sleep very well
though. Must be old age creeping up, right brother Ken?

CAST ASIDE
I got the cast off my foot today and feel free after six weeks with it on. I must be
carefull not to re-hurt it. Dr. Fee told me to take it easy. I see him again in about
a month. It started snowing while we were in his office. I measured 3 inches in
our drive about 7:00 tonight. It's pretty but I'm ready for the warmer weather
they say is coming.
I am amazed at how many people have one problem or another. Some are small
& some are large. Some are self-inflicted and some are otherwise. It reminds me
to thank the Lord for how blessed I am. I don't have anything to complain about,
even after breaking my foot. "Count your many blessings, name them one by
one..." I can't count that high.
What will be next in my life? Getting back to regular things (church, Barnes &
noble, etc), I want to see my twin again asp. I want to have a date with my wife
to thank her for all she has done during the last six weeks. I want to celebrate
my birthday Friday as my twin gets another year older.
Thanks for your thoughts & prayers for me. I will pray for you.

A REAL STINKER
I get the cast off Wednesday morning after wearing it for six weeks. My dear
wife told me that it really smells, especially at night in bed. I'm so sorry to
be such a stinker to anyone around me. I promise to take a bath before next
Sunday. I can hardly stand the smell myself.
I will be able to drive when he cast is off. I can go to Barnes and Noble again
because I've missed being there drinking coffee and reading. I can go out
with a couple of friends for breakfast again. I can go get the mail/newspaper
again. Hey! Why am I so happy? Someone else has done all these things for
me for six weeks and I want them to stop. Not! Ouch!! I just broke my left
foot! Call 911 and tell them to go get me some coffee, please.

EARLY MORNING WAKE-UP CALLS
My son called home early Sunday morning to see how we're doing during
this tragic time. My twin and I will turn 67 years old next Friday and I'm
wondering if he will be here. Right now he is on a hospital bed in ICU in
critical condition.
Eveytime I think of Harold and his being in such sad shape, it's like taking
a can opener to my heart. So many memories flow forth. So much pain
flows forth. It hurts so much I can hardly take it. But there are two
things that happened just this morning that give me in-peace.
When I turned to Facebook, I saw where our daughter had posted a
song of hope, "Through It All." The 23rd Psalm speaks of walking
through the valley and knowing God is with us. I needed those words
of hope and healing.
The phone rang early today and it was our son wanting to see how we
are doing. When he was about to hang up he said, "I love you Dad."
That's all this old man needed! I told him how much I love him too.
My own daughter and son wrapped their arms around this heart of
mine that's hurting and gave me what I needed, themselves.
This will be a tough week for our family as we deal with life and death
issues. With God's help, we will make it. Harold will make it too.

FAMILY
Today was a family day for the Coomer family. I'm amazed at the gathering
of our family to be with my twin in ICU following a fall. Harold didn't show
any signs of knowing we were even there. It was so sad to see him and to
see how his family is suffering this tragic thing that has happened.
While we were sad, we were still able to show happiness in being together.
We dodn't get together as much as we used to do. Today reminded us of
just how very much we need more family gatherings. I'm so proud of how
our family bonds in the worst of times.
We are back in Bowling Green worn out but knowing we were where we
needed to be today. I'm sure we will be back in Louisville soon as family
because that is what we want to do.

"NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP..."
"Now I lay me down to sleep....." Words we've all prayed at one time or another,
for one reason or another. While it's a child's prayer, we're all children of God, so
I pray those words often as I'm about to go to sleep.
Tonight, I will pray those words along with so many others as I think about my
twin brother who is sleeping following a serious fall. Our hope is that he will
awaken soon from his slumber, if not here and now, he will be in the arms of
Father God. It seems as if every thought I think is about Harold and his dear
family. While we're not with them physically, we are spiritually.
Tonight I will pray as I lay my head on my pillow. I will pray for so many
things and for so many people, even you.

CURLING UP
I goofted when I got my cast wet in the shower yesterday. I used a hair dryer to dry
it off and my toes curled up. I get out of this thing next week and I hope I can get back
to being normal. Sorry about that. I will try the new normal.
This has been hard for my family. They have had to drive me places and put up with
my lack of patience when I've wanted things right now. They ignore me from time to
time but for the most part, they are good to me. I have an idea that I'll have to make
up for it when I can caste the cast aside. We shall see soon enough, I'm sure.
I wish to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts.
Speaking of curling up, I think I'llgo curl up on he couch and finish reading a good
book.

DRIVING ME CRAZY
Most everytime I work at this desk, there is a cute cocker spaniel at my
feet. He is on an old blue banket and soundly sleeping. But if I make one
move, he is up and at it. I'm amazed at how he is always right under my
feet, so to speak. It's good to know I have one faithfull friend at my age.
Since I soon will get the cast off my broken foot, I'm starting to think of
where I want to go and what I want to do. While my wife has been very
good at driving me places, it's driving me crazy. (hold off on the thought
you just thought because I know how you think - so does God) Six full
weeks of not driving has allowed me to think of just how much I take
things for granted. I'm indeed thankfull for having someone to drive
me when I can't drive. She just doesn't like my words of wisdom when
I say something about her driving. I'm trying to be mum but it isn't
ever easy for me.
Well, it's time for me and my shadow to get up and go take a nap
while the getting is good. So good-night - don't forget to leave the
front porch light on - oh, it's only 1:12pm - who cares, come on
Derby.

OUT & ABOUT
I've been out & about thia afternoon. My wife took me to Wendy's and to
Barnes & Noble. I started reading a new James Patterson book while I
was eating a walnut muffin and drinking coffee. I even saw a couple of
people I know before leaving to head home. We did stop to get the car
washed since it was so dirty even though we know rain and snow are
heading our way again soon.
I'm tired and ready for my nap since I was out & about for such a long
time. So, I heading to bed right now.

CABIN FEVER
I have a bad case of cabin fever. A pill and rest won't releave the fever either.
Leaving might cure the cabin fever I need. Maybe a trip to Barnes & Nobel
will work. I need to get out of here so I can see what's out there in the world.
I can only take so much of being inside so much. If my taxi driver is up to
it, maybe, just maybe, I can catch a taxi today.
I get the cast off of my foot in two weeks and have high hopes and great
expectations of getting back into the grove of things. Most of all, I've
missed the 8:15 service each Sunday and going to Barnes & Noble to
read & relax.
Speaking of cabin fever, I'm thankfull for having a great cabin and such
great companions to keep company with. But I have an idea that they
too might have a case of cabin fever.

WHAT I'M READING
While I'm watching football on tv, I'm also reading a new book by
William Kent Krueger, Vermilion Drift. 95 pages into it, I'm sure
he will become a writer I will want to read in the future. He has
several books that I'm sure I can read for free from the Library
or buy at a used book bookstore. I may change my mind before
I finish this first book of his I've read, but I doubt it.
I'm waiting for a couple of new books to come out by a couple of
my favorite writers. Maybe someone will come out with one soon.
I keep watching out for them from time to time so that I don't
miss them.
I used to hate to read but now I read two or three books at the
same time when I'm at Barnes & Noble or at home. I even re-
read several just to refresh myself knowing that I'll be blessed
again and again.
One of the things I like doing is to read some Scriptures with a
pencil in my hand to make notes or leave marks for the future
when I'm re-reading a text. At times I have to put other books
aside so that I can read the Word of God first.

I'M BACK!!
I must confess that I haven't been blogging because I couldn't remember my password.
My age is creeping up on me, I guess. But I'm not as old as my older brother! He is so
hard to catch at my age. This too shall pass.
I have enjoyed looked out our office window at the snow falling. I put on some soft
music & watch the silence of the snow. I have had to have others go get my mail and
newspapers for me for the most part. I have driven the car out a time or two to get
it rather than waiting. I go go slow in the snow and watch what I'm doing. Thus fare
I've only hit two trees. Kidding.
Well, that's the news from Lake Lookout. Take care & stay inside all you can.

A CLOSE SHAVE
I started growing a moustache last week since I'm home-bound for
a few days. When I looked at the man in the mirror I thought of
another man.
Several years ago when I was [astor of a small country church, I
started growing a moustache. On Sunday morning I was met by
a member of the church coming into attend Sunday School. When
he saw my moustache he told me that he wouldn't stay to hear
me preach because he didn't think a pastor should have one.
While he was in Sunday School, I went next door to our house
and shaved my moustahe off and went back to church. When
he came out of the classroom I said something to him and went
to the pulpit area as the service started. Rather than walking
on out and going home, the man joined the choir and attended
the service. After it was over he asked me why I had shaved
my moustahe off, I told him I didn't want to be a stumbling
block for him or anyone else. He smiled and shook my hand
and left before I could tell him the rest of the story. My dear
wife had already informed me that she didn't like it. So, I
shaved because of her more than him.
I also shaved this one off for her. Besides, when you got it
you've got it.

DREAM HOUSE 2011
I'm watching Dream Home 2011 on HGTV with my wife. Wow!! What
a wonderfull house. I could learn to live there except for getting in and
out of it without it without falling down. I would slip and slid down the
very first step I'd take there.
Besides, we already live in our dream house in 2011. At times it is a
nighmare but most of the time it is great. The nightmares come when
we have to update things. We've already done a great many things to
make the house what we want and need it to be. We thank God for
having this house to live in.
If we win the Dream House 2011, we will sell it and update this house.
Now that's dreaming.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Well, I've gone and done it again. I watched UK defeat UL, took a nap, read a new
book and ate too much Poppa John Pizza today. I hope I sleep tonight. Last night
was not a good night for me. I tossed and turned all night & slept when I could on
a couch. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and never did fall back asleep. Maybe I've worn
myself out enough to sleep tonight.
Happy New Year! My twin turns 67 in 2011. Poor fellow.

GROUCH IS ON THE COUCH
I didn't sleep very well last night. I ended up on our couch where I did
sleep some. I was up at 5:00 to start yet another day. It might be too
much coffee or it could be the UK-UL basketball game that I want to
watch at 11:00 our time. Anyway, I didn't sleep at all last night, almost.
Just call me Grouch on the couch. I'm on the lazy-boy right now with
my broken foot held high on a pillow, Maybe I can sneak in some sleep
by listening to one of my old sermons. Here's one: HE WHO LOAF SHALL
HAVE NO BREAD. Snoring.................................

IN THE RED
I'm in the red at the end of 2010. I have on a RED CAST for the next six weeks.
I'm BIG BLUE since being born in Lexington but Western University is RED
HILLTOPPERS. I'll wear RED this time to honor their colors.
I had my wife stop on our way home and buy a book for me at Barnes & Noble.
I had been reading it there but doubt I will be back very soon to finish reading
it. It's by David Baldacci & entitled, HELL'S CORNER. While we live on one
but it's not Hell's Corner. Although we're going through some pretty touch
times right now. Thank the Lord for blessing us with HEAVENLY blessings.
For now I have to take things easy and ask the good Lord to give my wife
an extra dose of patience with taking care of me. Can I get an AMEN?
I'm tired, so I'm stopping here and heading to bed to rest.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING
Big Brother is watching. I know from personal experience. While I was taking a
nap today, my Big Brother called to see how I'm doing. I broke my right foot a
few days ago and he wanted to see how I'm doing. What a kind Big Brother. He
is one of a kind.
My Big Brother calls others often to see how they are doing and to see how he
can help them. He has always been a Big Brother for the three of us younger
brothers. He goes the second mile to offer assistance. Years ago he and his
wife drove many miles in the snow to help two of us when we were in a wreck.
We have never forgotten that time when Big Brother was watching. He is one
of a kind.
Big Brother helps family and friends in so many ways while he himself could
do other things for himself. He never ask for anything for doing what he does.
He simply wants to watch out for the other guy. He is indeed one of a kind.
So, thanks Big Brother for watching out for someone so silly that he breaks
bones about as often as he goes to Barnes & Noble. You are one of a kind and
I want to thank you from the bottom of my broken foot to the top of my
big head. Thanks Ken.

CRACKING UP!
I was wondering this morning if Barnes & Noble has a book-mobile. Sure there is
The Nook, but I don't have one. I like holding the real thing when I'm reading a
book. I will have to hire someone to buy a book for me (I will pay for it) since it
might be awhile before Barnes & Noble will see me again.
Here are three books I might read: YOU'RE CRACKED UP!, OUCH THE GROUCH
ON THE COUCH, HERE I STAND. Best sellers I'm sure.
I do have books here at home to re-read rather than having to have another new
book. I am amazed at how many books I've re-read through out the years. They
are books that I always have to have. They inspire and inform me in so many ways.
I also like the comics since I am one some say. Funny thing is, I agree.

NOT AGAIN!
An X-ray today shows a broken right foot again. It's a new break rather
than in the same place as last time. I'll be put in a cast again as well so I'll
be unable to do much of anything. I'm thankfull I'll be able to do anything
at all.
I will be unable to serve Commuinion or lead a Bible study as I had planned
to do starting Sunday. I guess I'll be served instead of serving this time. It
might mean I can't washes dishes, drive Ms Daisey or even take out the
garbage. What will I do? I'll read & relax and give God the glory. I just hope
I heal quicker than last time so I can give the cast the boot!

WHAT A WEAK
I backslid today by watching First Baptist Church on tv since I didn't attend
Broadway UMC. I heard a good sermon and was blessed by taking time to
watch the service. My wife and daughter attended Broadway and brought
me my lunch from a resturant. They told me I was missed by some of the
flock.
I'm "on call" this week to visit the sick for my church. I think I'll need to
be put "on hold" and let someone take my place and come and see me.
I may have to even hold off on assisting at the 8:15 service for a few
weeks. I sure will miss being a minister doing whatever I can to serve
others.
I have enjoyed today as best I can by simply taking it easy for once.
I've even obeyed orders not to do dishes or shovel snow. What a
change. I'm weak this week.

HERE WE GO AGAIN
Well, I did it again! Yesterday while I was helping clean off the dinning room table,
I re-hurt the foot I fractured two years ago. I had to wear a boot, a cast and one
more boot for a long time. I sure hope this time I can skip (pun) all of that. I hope
to get an x-ray Monday to see what is what. In the meantime I'm walking with a
walker and staying off the foot as much as possible. I didn't even go to church this
morning since there is snow on the ground.
We've had a wonderfull Christmas except for the foot stuff. I'm going to sleep and
watch football this afternoon since I'm stuck in the snow. I'm also hurting, so back
to bed or the lazy-preacher place.
Warning: don't go and do something silly like I did.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
Our family went to the 6:00 p.Candlelight Christmas-Eve service at Broadway
last night. There were more people there than I had anticipated being there. The
service was wonderfull. The message and music was very moving. The 4:00
service was well attended as well.
When we left our house to head to Broadway, snow was falling. By the time the
service was over, we had snow covering everything, everywhere. We scraped
snow off the car and headed home being follwed by my brother in his snow-
mobile. When were all in we fixed fondue and ate while sharing stories of some
of the celebrations of Christmas from childhood. Wayne remembered things
that I couldn't. I think he dreams it or makes it up. Not really, I think he does
remember most things quite well. Maybe too well!
I went out early this morning and removed snow off Wayne's snow-mobile. I
hope I have a newspaper out at the mailbox but I'm not going to I need to
sneak a peak under the Christmas tree and see if Santa showed up while I
was snoring, I mean sleeping.
Have a wonderfull Christmas day and celebrate the reason for the season.
Merry Christnas from our house to your house.

A BUSY DAY
I've spent all afternoon with an elderly man at his house while his wife undergoes
test after falling today. We still haven't heard how she doing. I know she will be
very sore for a few days. I feel so sorry for the two of them. I took Derby to see
him when I took him his mail and paper. They were glad to see one another.
We had to have our septic tank drained this morning since it was giving us some
trouble. Just glad we got that job behind us. (no pun)
We have company coming this afternoon and tonight so we're cleaning house
and getting ready for them. We love it when our son shows up at home. He
can't stay very long due to having to get back to work tomorrow.
We plan to attend a Christmas Eve service at church with high hopes of
some snow tomorrow as well.
Merry Chrismas to you.

and getting ready for them. We love it when our son shows up at home. He
can't stay very long due to having to get back to work tomorrow.
We plan to attend a Christmas Eve service at church with high hopes of
some snow tomorrow as well.
Merry Chrismas to you.

MARK TWAIN & ME
I had coffee with Mark Twain at Starbuck Cafe today. He was dressed in a
white suit and sat at a near by table to me. He had long white hair and a
mustach. Even though Starbuck Cafe is a no smoke zone, Twain puffed
away at his cigcar as he blew smoke wings into the air.
There were many more writers across from my chair as I drank my
coffee. They all have been drawn by someone with great talent. It
is interesting that six of these famous writers smoked in a public
place. I wondered what they though as they looked down at all
of us. No telling what.
I did talk with one couple who live near to our house and to a woman
I hadn't seen for a number of years. It was good to have time to
simply take it easy when everyone else seemed so busy. Mark Twain

LIGHT A CANDLE
I love the look and smell of candles at Christmas. I have a small one lit before me
on the computer desk even as I write this blog. What I don't like are candles lit
and left in a room unattended. I heard on tv this morning that the number one
reasons for fires in homes are lit candles left unattended. That's so sad, but so
true.
One of my favorite songs of Christmas is about lit candles. The words were
written by my wife several years ago. It goes like this: "Light a candle, light
a candle, and tell the world Jesus Christ is born today, Jesus Christ is born
today." So, during Advent and Chrismas, light a candle and tell the world
Jesus Christ is born.
Don't leave the candle lit and unattended. Instead, let your little light shine
so others can see Jesus through you. Light a candle. "It only takes a spark
to get a fire going."

CLEATS & CHURCH
I wore cleats to church this morning to stay safe walking into/out of worship. It
snowed while we worshipped and the cars were covere with the white stuff. But
it's the black stuff beneath the white stuff that I don't like, ice! Since breaking
some ribs on the ice a few years ago, I try to stay up when waling.
After attending worship, we went out to eat at the Mall. I didn't even go to
Barnes and Noble today. Instead, I came home and watched the snow and
football before taking a nap. I'll get to B & N before the week is over and get
caught up on some reading.
I will wear my cleats Monday morning to go get the newspaper unless it's
not in the box by the street. They made need cleats on the tires to deliver
papers from place to place.

COLDER ON THE OLDER
I need to get my long john's out and on from the way things
look this weekend. I hope I don't need my snow shovel or
sled though. I like warmer weather better than cold weather
since the cold slows me down so much. What I really need is a
trip to where it's warmer this time of the year but since I
can't go there, I'll stay snug as a bug in a rug with coffee
in my mug.
As I get older, it seems to get colder, righ Kenneth? My older
brother should know since he gets up before I do, although
not by much. And his coffee is waiting for him too when he
rises to shine for another day. The best way to start the day
is stay in bed and snooze.

A CHARGE TO KEEP I HAVE
I attended Charge Conference last night at Broadway and gave
my retired pastor report. I sat beside a retired pastor who had
lots to do with my entering the ministry. He told me started his
ministry the year before I was born in 1944. Doug Mosely comes
out of Broadway because he lived near the old church on Broadway.
He was a teacher at Lindsey Wilson College when I was there. So
being seated by Dr. Mosley last night was a real honor.
I am giving up some of my ministries at Broadway at the end of
this year due to having difficulty walking the halls of the hospitals.
I'm also giving up my monthly devotions at the retirement village.
If I am called to visit or speak I will do whatever possible to the
glory of God. I will continue assisting with Communion at the
8:15 service each Sunday and assisting with serving Communion
at the 9:3o service from time to time.

CHANGING PLACES
I'm in shock while writing this blog on a Sunday afternoon. While
I'm here at home in my study, my wife is at Barnes & Noble!! It's
my Sunday afternoon space to read while sipping some coffee. I'm
sipping coffee at my desk while listening to Christmas music and
suffering the internet instead of being at B & N. I'm sure she just
needed to do what I do sometime by being in slow-motion on a
Sunday afternoon. Changing places is a good thing at times.
Wednesday night is Charge Conference at Broadway and I have
to hand in a report of what I've been doing during the year. I've
preached 12 times, spoke to the Stephen Minister's once, led a
growth group for several weeks, visited rest homes and hospitals
monthly and helped with Communion every Sunday at the 8:15
service as I assist our senior pastor. My wife and I also attend
the 9:30 contemporary service and serve Communion three
or four times per year. I'm "on call" every month for hospital
calls as my way of taking some of the load off other staff members
who have other things to be doing, I wish I were able to do even
more than I do.
Since I'm sleepy and it is three, it's nap time before somone
wonders where I am and wants me to do something for them.
Excuse me, I have some undercover work to do.

"MAKE MY DAY"
While I was at Barnes & Noble this morning drinking coffee
and reading a book I saw something that made my day. Two
women were at a table near by talking when suddenly one of
them stood up and wrapped her arms around another woman
who had approached them. They all three had tears falling
No doubt it would make my day! So, who do you want to see
soon? Maybe you could make their day by showing up out of
the blue. Then it wouldn't be a blue Christmas for them and
yourself. Make my day by doing something about what you
have just read.

"I'M BACK!"
I'm back! After some time off from blogging, I'm back. I got out
of the habit of blogging while doing a number of other things. I
hope I was missed. So, here goes:
This is that time of the year when I love to watch people as they
shop at a mall. It is so strange that most men walk behind the
wife as they go from store to store or that most men take a
seat and wait for the wife to return from some store.
It seems strange to me that so few shoppers carry packages
as they walk through the maze at the mall. How do the stores
stay open? It also seems strange to me that most people are
talking while walking with someone. Trouble is, they aren't
talking to the ones walking but with someone else on the vell
phone! But then so is the other walker with them.
Enough of this silly stuff. I have to go to Barnes & Noble and
watch what's going on there.
Keep the SON in your eyes!

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW
When I looked out our cabin window this morning I saw snow,
lots of snow. It's still snowing so we won't be going anywhere.
I knew God would answer my prayer last night. I just hope He
answers the one when we get go down the mountain Monday!
This is turning out to be a very relaxing vacation for us since
it is so quite and nice. I even made blueberry mufffins this
morning to go with my coffee and her hot tea. I look forward
to watching football this afternoon and taking a nice nap. Old
habits are hard to break.
I'm going outside to get in the hot water with the jets going
full blast and watch the snow falling. I've always wanted to
walk naked in the snow. Come on, Naked. (my invisible dog)

A MOUNTAIN TOP EXPERIENCE
Since I couldn't sleep early this morning, I got out of bed, made
coffee & turned on the gas logs in our cabin high on a mountain
near Gatlinburg. I love the silence and stillness of being up by
5:00 a.m.. I've had two cups of coffee and ate a slice of apple
pie while watching news on tv.
We went down the mountain yesterday afternoon for awhile.
We went to AppleWood for lunch and headed back up here
before dark. I've read from two books and have enjoyed time
with my wife. We've enjoyed the hot tub and looking at the
mountain views.
We head home Monday after a week here taking things easy.
Today is a day to soak in the silence and chill high on a high,
high hill.

THIS FALL
I hurt my back a few days ago and have been on the slow-go since. Im
feeling better today. I even helped my wife work out in our back yard
untill I escaped. In fact, we're trying to go on a mini-trip next week if
I'm better. We need a fall trip to rest from a very bust fall thus far.
I'm reading a new book by Phililp Yancey that I want to keep reading
while were on our trip. He always speaks to my soul in such a wonderfull
way. I also plan to buy one other book before we leave. Why not?
I will try to do better after we return from our trip this Fall.

PAY ATTENTION
It was wonderfull having our son home to celebrate his sister's birthday
over the weekend. He has one coming up in a couple of weeks. We had
a good time after worship at a resturant where we saw some people we
hadn't seen for a long time.
I'm "on call" to visit the hospitals this week for our church. Last week
I spoke at a rest home about paying attention. I told them that I've
heard that so many times that I thought my name was Pay Attention
Coomer with a nick name, Hey, Trouble. My parent's, school teachers
and my wife all always tell me to pay attention. I will when I grow up.

WORSHIP & WORK
Since it was cooler today and it may rain Monday, I went over to my brother's
house and worked in his front yard for a couple of hours. I cut weeds and bushes
and carried it out front to be picked up Tuesday. Needless to say, I'm bushed!
I'm trying to talk him into doing away with all of that and putting something
else in it's place, like concrete! I'm tired of getting tired doing the same job
over and over again.
I attended the 8:15 service and the 9;30 and was blessed at both services.
I am amazed at how I'm blessed at Broadway each and every Sunday as
the Holy Spirit touches so many lives in so many ways.
I'm reading a new book about how religion isn't what works, but having a
relationship with Jesus is what matters most. It's not what we do, but what
Jesus did and does. I agree from the bottom of my heart.
Maybe Monday will allow me some down time since Sunday has been a
day of worship and work.

MY DAY OFF
Yesterday I spent some time at Barnes & Noble reading books. I finished one book and
picked up a 200 page book just to see if I wanted to read it. In less than an hour I had
read the entire book because I couldn't put it down. I may go back and buy it today.
My wife and I then went out to eat lunch before going to buy shoes for me. Now that I
have Sunday shoes, I can't wear the new ones today. So sad since I thought these shoes
were made for walking. If I wear them today, my wife will tell me to start walking and
don't come back!
Right now it is wonderfull out on our deck out back. It's cool and quite. I love to drink
my morning coffee. read the newspaper and use the laptop before much else happens.
Derby Pie loves to watch people pass by. There is one man who stops at the fence and
gives Derby a treat. Derby doesn't bark at him like others who don't stop and give him
a treat. It's fun to watch how he acts outside. Yesterday he started barking while looking
at the fence in front of where I am on the deck. I didn't see what he was barking at
until I realized my wife I placed something new in the garden that I hadn't noticed. But
Derby did. Bark - bark -bark until I took him over to it and touched it so he could see
it was ok. He stopped barking after I did that.
I'm out of coffee so I'll stop writing and go get a refill so I can get back out here and
relax before my wife hands me my work shoes.

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION
My wife and I attended her 45th high school reunion at Radcliff last night. She saw several
people whom she hadn't seen for some time. The meal was good and the speaker was great.
He was in her class and ended up working with developing high-skilled weapons for our
nation. He was both witty and wise, well worth hearing. We got home late after a long day
being with her aunt in a rest home before the reunion.
I went to our 8:15 service this morning and then headed home to rest of this day of rest.
When you get my age, you rest all you can. However, I may end up at Barnes & Noble to
read a book I'm about a 100 pages into. It's hard to break old habits.

SAFE HAVEN
Since I'm "on call" for our church, I've been busy today with being at Broadway and
going to the hospital to see someone. I did take time to drop by Barnes & Noble to
begin reading a new book called Safe Haven. I hope I can breeze right through it
so I can start reading a new Ted Bell book soon. These are my pills for relaxing my
mind and body. The coffee helps too.
Now it's time to take nap in my safe haven called home. After being out of town to
see our son yesterday, it's good to be home, sweet home. Now that we have most
of our house in pretty good order, we deserve a break today at MacCoomer's.
However, knowing my wife, she will find something too soon for me to do. Untill
then, I'm hiding in my safe haven the rest of the day.
The phone woke me up from my nice nap. It was another retired pastor who wanted
something. Next time I'll be real still, stay quite and not answer that machine at all.
After all, who ever calls wanting to do something for you instead of wanting you to
do something for them? Stay safe. Stay quite. Stay!

TOP OF THE CLASS
I visited three people at a rest home this morning since I'm "on call" this week for
our church. All three were glad that I took the time to see them today. It's a shame
that so many senior citizens are forsaken and seldom see someone they know. I
was in and out in less than an hour but it was well worth while for all four of us.
Yesterday was a busy day for my wife and myself since we both needed to be
at church most of the morning. I helped in the 8:15 service and she helped at
the welcome desk at 9:00. After we ate, we went out to eat and to Barnes &
Noble. Then we waited for our daughter to get home from a mini-trip to
Greenville, South Carolina . We were glad to see her drive in the drive way
around 10:00 last night. She said she had a great trip.
My wife and I plan to attend her High School reunion in Vine Grove this
coming Saturday. I'm glad we're going so she can show me off. I'll be glad
to show her off instead because that young lady is now a very lovley lady
whom I've loved for over 41 years. She is at the top of her class.

AN ODD THING
My wife and I have a burial plot next to her parents in Radcliff. We're just not ready to
move in as yet. It is next to the church where we were married 41 year ago. It's better
than Odd Fellow cemetary because that's where I should go when I die. Since I'm odd,
I would feel right at home. It's odd that she hasn't made the move so that she can rest
in peace atlast after I'm gone.
Come to think of it, Odd Fellow sounds better than Stinking Creek. I hope she doesn't
let me down.

DAILY PRAYERS
Two of the best books I have are prayers by William Barclay. Both books have daily prayers
that I use again and again as spiritual roadmaps. They offer me things to think about that I
might miss otherwise. I pause in my personal prayer and say, "Why didn't I think of that?"
"I could of had a V-8!" Well, there are times when I think of 8 things that need some serious

Barclay's been offering my prayers a jump-start for my soul for years. Both books are
standing in the need of prayer because the pages are falling out of the binding after I've
turned them so many times. I try to turn them with care as they help care for my daily
needs.
These two books are along side other books on prayer that I read and re-read often. But
the best book is The Holy Bible. It's like looking in a mirror and seeing the good, the bad

that I use again and again as spiritual roadmaps. They offer me things to think about that I
might miss otherwise. I pause in my personal prayer and say, "Why didn't I think of that?"
"I could of had a V-8!" Well, there are times when I think of 8 things that need some serious
prayer. The V stands for Victory when I realize God is the One to whom I'm praying.

LABOR DAY IS EVERY DAY
I'm going to talk about getting our work done Wednesday when I speak at the Retirement
Village. 'Work for the Night Is Coming" is an old song that's seldom sung anymore. But I
think we all have work to get done daily. It might be light work or it might be hard work,
even if we're senior citizens. Labor Day is every day when we stop and think about it.
My Dad was 96 when he died a few years ago but he worked everyday doing something
for someone, in some way or another. That's what kept him going year after year. As I
see it, my wife will keep me so busy till I die that I won't be able to rest much till thjen.

BASEBALL AT BUSCH STADIUM
I'm watching CIN play STL in St Louis with a friend of our daughter. John was in Cincy
last week to watch a game with the pitcher whose is on the recent cover on Sports Illustrated.
The same picture is on the plate again tonight while we watch.Cincy is behind 3 - 2 in the
8th inning, so it doesn't look like he will win tonight. But it is still a good game to watch.
The last time I saw Cincy play was when Sandy Koufax was at the plate many, many years
ago.I was still in High School at the time. I can't remember who won since it's been so
long ago.
Well, it's my bed time so I better put on my jammies and hit the sack. That's home run for
this old man if I say so myself. It's grand slam out of the family rooom to the bedroom.
"And he's out!" snooze - snooze.

ONE OF THOSE DAYS!
Yesterday was a work day (Labor Day) at our house again. My told wife me to take some things
up to the attic. I asked her who would have to bring all that stuff back down after we're
gone? She said that our son & daughter would. And, I think they should since most of it
is theirs anyway. I just hope the ceiling desn't cave in before they have to do it!
While I was up there I saw Jimmy Hoffa hiding behind some cobwebs. He asked if it was
safe to come out of hiding after all these years. I told him he better stay a little longer
since I might want to join him if my wife keeps on keeping me moving stuff. That way
I would have someone to talk too. Scoot over Jimmy!
One of the things I carried out of the garage was a white bag of dirt. When I emptied it,
two worms started moving and shocked me. Rip Van Worm and Mrs. Rip Van Worm,
Wigglerlett, asked why I woke them up. They have been in that dark gargage for over a
year just laying around. I wish I had left them in the bag because I would of jumped
in there with them. My wife calls me worm from time to time, so I'd be right at home.
Too late now, the worms have crawled on off in search of a new abode.
I hung a picture of our daughter in the garage so she would see it when she drove into
her parking place after getting home for work. She said she couldn't help but notice
it hanging there since it's so large. We had a good laugh before she hit me.
Enough of this stuff! I have to go play hide & go seek before my wife ask me to do
something else upstairs in the basement! I think I craw under our bed & hide with
Adam. (dust-dirt-get it?)

NOT NOW
We had planned on going to Nashville today but my wife wasn't feeling up to the trip, so we
didn't go. She slept in and I slipped on off a couple of other places. After being gone for a
couple of hours I headed home for the rest of the day. And, rest is what I did. I think that
I worked to much Monday and was worn out. I'm glad to say that we are both better and
look forward to Senior Day at Kroger Wednesday. Not!!!
I'm several pages into a book about the many ways God whispers to us. Bill Hybels has a
good way of sharing stories of how God whispers to people in one way or another, at one
time or another. I have heard the whisper of God and felt the nudge needed to get me up
and get me going. "Be still and know that I am God" is one way God whispers or even
shouts in our souls. Stop. Look. Listen.

MONDAY MUSING
I got my wife up early today so we could go to Hardee's for breakfast before going to
my brother's house to do yard work. I trimmed bushes while she sprayed weeds and
did some clean-up on the back porch. We did more than we had planned but it was
well worth it. When we got home, I tilled a small space for our fall garden. Now I'm
all out of strength and resting my sore, tired bones before she suggest something
else for me to do. Next time, I'll let her sleep in so I can escape to Barnes & Noble
to read and drink a cup of coffee.
We have to go to Nashville Tuesday. Last time we ate at the Pancake Pantry . Maybe
we can eat at some other fancy food place, like Wendy's. I don't mind the drive to
Nashville, it's the drive home afterwards. It seems like we go about every other
week for one reason or another. Too bad we don't have a place to stay there. Maybe
I can get a country singer to let us stay over night. Little Jimmy Dicken's, where
are you?
I got caught and tilled for our fall garden and then raked it before taking a shower.
I wonder if we will have a good crop of jelly-beans. Smuckers, eat your heart out!

"WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?"
Every Other Monday is a book about some men who meet every other Monday to study
Scriptures together. It's also about how much the meeting means to each one of them. It
stresses that they have become a band of brothers as they shares with one another. They
have been meeting for twenty years now.
Throughout the years, I've met with some men in something similiar. While there have
been different groups at different times and different locations, they have been a band
of brothers for me. I meet monthly with two men at a resturant simply to share jokes,
stories, problems and the like. When we meet this Friday, it will be like getting a jump
start in my soul. I always leave feeling refreshed by the food and the fellowship. I'm
thinking about starting a second group for gathering somewhere soon. It does a soul
good.
While I was reading this new book I thought, why didn't I think of that? Story after
story comes to mind as I reflect upon things we've said and done over the years. It
might not be best seller but it would be about the best food and fellowship anyone
could ever get at a gathering of a band of brothers.

JUST THE RIGHT FIT
I stayed home all day today to read and relax. I started reading a book about some
men who meet every other Monday simply to study God's word and see how it can
apply in their lives. As I read it, I'm reminded of small groups I've been in over the
years and the one I'm in at this time. What a blessing they've been in my life.
Saturday morning I'm picking a friend up at 7:45 to take him to a smalll group of
men who meet monthly. Since he is new in town, he needs assistance in finding a
small group that he can join for fellowship from time to time. It is my opionion
that not everyone fits in every group. There have to be certain things in place for
it to work. My hope is that he will find the right fit for fellowship that will enrich
him and others.
Little did I know how much I needed to stay in today. I read and slept off and on
throughout the day. I did cross the street to see a new neighbor who is in his mid-
eighties. Cecil and I hit it off the first time we saw one anther, even if he is a
Baptist! We love to laugh as we listen to one another tell stories. Little did I know
that Cecil could bless my day so much. I just hope that I bless him too. As far as I
can tell, it's the right fit. Hey! Where's my wallet?

A BOOK CASE
After being at Barnes & noble this morning, I stopped at another book store to see
if they had any boxes for me to bring home. While someone was checking that out,
I checked out some new books. Before I knew it, I had bought three new books to
bring home. When I left the book store, I had several boxes and three new books.
The funny thing is this, I needed the boxes to put books in that I don't want or
need any more. I'm taking them to the library for a book sale that they have. All
I can say is, there will be three more one of these days that they can have.
One new book is about someone who meets every other Monday with friends to
talk things over that they have in common. One book is about the way God whispers
to us in so many different ways. And the last new book is about how God nudges
us from time to time in one way or another. Since I read books at a fast pace, I
have an idea these three new books will join dozens of other books on a book case
before long. By the way, my wife and I are going out for supper and by a couple
of places looking for another book case. If you remember, one of my books that
I've read and re-read is, The Man Who Loved Books Too Much. Case closed! Guilty,
as charged by my dear wife.

GO JUMP IN THE LAKE!
Saturday I went with my family to a family reunion on my wife's side of the family. It was
beside a lake where is a nice picnic shelter fans to boot. After I had the prayer, we dug into
all the food. It was great tasting even if the weather was hot. Before much longer, I knew
I didn't need to stay in the heat. I drove into E'town and went to Barnes & Noble where
it was cool. I read through a couple of books and took it easy until I knew I had to leave
and go back out into the hot heat.
When I retured, I saw that several had already left and headed home. Before long, we
were on our way back to Bowling Green. While we had a great time, I vote to not meet
in the heat but on a cooler day in October. If ayone wants to swim, they can go jump in
the lake before we gather in cooler weather. As for me, I can't stand the summer heat
much more.

ROOMS - ROOMS - ROOMS
One bedroom is now an office and one bedroom is now a new bedroom & the Living
Room is now a Living Room & not an office. Got all that? And I've got a sore back
to prove it! Looks great & works great as far as I can tell. I'm sure my wife and my
daughter will have something to say soon. I sure hope they agree with me.
Speaking of rooms, I want to go to our bedroom and sleep after a busy Friday
the 13th. We have to go to Elizabethtown Saturday for a reunion. The only good
news about the bad news is that there is lake and nice shelter to stay cooler on a
hot day. Maybe after eating I can slip off to Barnes & Noble while they meet. They
will never miss me since I'm so quite. Not!

BEEN BUSY
After our son moved out of his bedroom, our daughter said she wanted to ove into
his room. Yesterday, I moved her thinghs into that room and then moved most of
or office things into what had been her bedroom. Friday will me the time when we
arrange the living room to be a living room. It's like playing musical rooms. Grab
what you can when you can. I'm too tired and too sore to even get up out of this chair
and go to the bathroom, let alone, do much more moving. I move that we don't
move. Can I get a second to my motion?
I did slip into Barnes & Noble after a couple of hospital visits today. While I was
there I read a 222 page book about being a better husband. Since we celebrated
41 years Monday, I figure I could use a couple of clues in how to be a better
husband. Now, I have to put them into practice. I even took my wife out to
eat tonight as a date. What a great guy!

"A KEEPER"
When I was ordering coffee at Barnes & Noble this morning, the woman taking the
order asked me something, twice. I didn't hear her either time. When I did, I told
her my wife was thinking about getting rid of me or the hearing aids. She said, "I
think you're a keeper, she can always get better hearing aids." I then told her we
would celebrate being married 41 years Monday, so she was stuck with me.
As for the hearing aids, they work just fine. It's just that I'm not paying much
attention when someone speaks. As for me being a keeper, that's a bigger issue.
My wife keeps me busy. My wife keeps me waiting. My wife keeps me from
driving too fast. She is the keeper when it comes right down to it!
I'm keeping my wife after all these years because she needs me. I'm keeping
my wife because she loves me, for better or for worse. Besides, I love her too
much to start over.

SHE SAID I COULD
While my wife and I were at Barnes & Noble yesterday afterrnoon, my wife asked
me why I hadn't gotten something sweet to eat. To be honest, I hadn't thought about
doing it. Until she asked me that question.
Sure enough, I got up and ordered a brownie to go with my cup of coffee. After all,
she said I could. Her could became my should before I couild blink an eye. As I
ate it, I was glad she gave me permission to induldge on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
I wonder if she will ever ask me that question again after I took her up on it. The
biggest problem now will be to take it all off! That's what I say.
