An Angel Appeared

As my wife and I were on our way to the Doctor in Nashville this morning a car started
to pull over into our lane. Had I not honked loud and long, he would of hit us hard. I
mean really hard! He pulled back over and we went on our way with thankkful hearts.
The next amazing thing was that I drove on towards the Doctor's office and was there
before I knew it. It was as if were in a daze and an angle drove us there. I don't recall
atleast two miles. When I started turning towards the right place to get off, that's when
it hit me that I was there before I knew it. It's another miracle because I must of been
still in shock from what had almost happened a few minutes before.
After we ate at a resturant, I let my wife drive us back to Bowling Green. I think my
mind was still stuck on how blessed we were that we were ok. I have an idea that the
man in the other car is thankful as well.

"I'll Drink to That!"

Three of our family went to Starbucks early this evening to listen to Louis & some
others from our church play outside. Louis is our contemporary song leader at our
church. The music was secular rather than sacred at Starbucks. It was out of this
world. They were wonderful!! I hope they do it again soon.
While listening to the music aand drinking coffee, I watched the people who were
there. They were respectful and relaxed. Even though I didn't know everyone
there, I did know most of them.
I just wished they had sang 99 Bottles of of Coffee on the Wall while I drank my cup
of coffee. It was so sooothing! And, since someone bought the coffee for me, it was
even better than usual. Thanks Louis! Next time I'll get super sized Starbuck Coffee
if you're paying for it.

Monday Musings

While serving Communion yesterday, a small child being held in her father's arms
reached out for bread before he could stop her. We smiled as she then dipped the
bread into the juice. Some might say she is too young. I think Jesus would say,
"Let the little children come unto me..." It was a marvelous moment.
Our pastor spoke about how we hord so many things that we relly don't need
any more. To illustate that he had a rack of ties that he said he didn't need any
longer. The he started giving them away. Of course he had to beg men to take
them. As he did, I hummed that hymn about ties, "Blest be the Tie That Binds."
Can I get an "amen" that that? I was so inspired that I came home and pulled
out all my old ties that I plan to never wear again. Hey! Want some free ties?
Last night my youngest brother brought his new car (2004) over for us to see.
It is really nice. Now I have car fever for a new car. Now if I can only get an
"amen" from my wife! I know what she will say, "NOT NOW!" So I'll keep
the one I have remembering that I gave it a name when we bought it, "Doxology."
I still thank the Lord for us having such a good car, even if it needs washing.
Early this morning I went out back and drank coffee and read the paper. My
name wasn't it it for getting arrested or dying. Talk about a good reason t
sing a "Doxology"!! It was cool enough that the hot coffee tasted so good to
the last drop. And that's the last thing I have to say.
By the way, have you heard about the woman who touched Jesus to be
healed of h..............? She got the last laugh as well. Just ask the preacher
who told the story about it all.
My Dad died a year ago yesterday. He is doing just fine up there because
I hear him singing the "Doxology" up in Heaven with a voice as high as
Billy Mays. Who knows, maybe Billy is singing a divine duet with him.
"toota-lu, toota-lu."

"I'm Back!"

It's great having our computer back after having it worked on over a few days. While
we can use our daughter's lap-top, it's better having this one to use.
I'm to do a funeral for a woman whose church membership is at my last church where
I was pastor for five years. She is in a coma and expected not to live much longer. She
lived here in Bowling Green and attended the same church we attend. Her daughter
got her college dregree when and where my wife and I did 40 years ago. It's a small,
small world after all.
I will go back to Campbellsville whenever the time comes to do her funeral. The two
of us met a few times to go over the arrangements for her funeral. She is such a sweet
woman with great faith.
It's hard to believe my dad died a year ago this coming Sunday. I sure do miss him.
He was 96. My mother would of been 98 the 22nd had she still been living. I sure
miss mom too.
Enough for now. Take care and leave the porch light on.

The Today Show Today

I had an early morning wake-up call this morning that I hadn't requested. Someone was
calling for someone else of all things! Since I knew the dogs wanted to go outside, I got up
and took care of them before my morning coffee and newspaper sounds of silence. I have
an idea that I want to take a nap before long.
I love to read about Dagwood & Blondie because I see so much of my wife and myself in
the story lines. The one about Dagwood painting a room for Blondie while she wasn't at
home hit home here when he had painted the right color in the wrong room. Been there,
done that! Who told them? That's why I try to get things right beforeI get a right, if ya
know what I mean!
Since I have several things to do today, I better be up and at it. Maybe I can slip a nice
nap in between jobs. I want to finish a book I'm reading so I can read another one. They
are both mysteries that keep my attention while reading.

The Today Show

I had a great time with two friends for breakfast last Friday morning. Then my wife and
I met them at a resturant Friday night and ate again. This time, Bob's wife was with us
as well as mine. Paul's wife was out of town. As usual, we talked, laughed and ate until we
had to get going.
Yesterday I consecrated Communion at the 8:15 service and then served as a greeter at
the 9:30 service. Guess what? We went right back to Ruby Tuesday for lunch even though
we had been there Friday night. We saw several people we know which made the meal
there even better. Then it was nap time before watching golf on tv.
Today is hide time. Something tells me my wife has a long list of things she wants done
around the house today. So my mission right now to to scat and hide somewhere. I'd
say where on the blog but she would read it and hide & seek would be all over. So is
this blogggggg.

Back to Routine Things

My wife and I both had to go to the dentist yesterday morning. When we were ready
to leave, it rained so hard that I couldn't talk her into going out to our car and getting
our umbrella. So, being the gentleman I am, I went out and got it so she wouldn't get
soaked. Needless to say, I got soaked! But that's ok since it was my fault for failing to
take the umbrella in in the first place.
I'm having breakfast with two buddies this morning so we can get caught up on what's
happening with one another. Paul and Bob both meet me about every three weeks at
the same place, where we eat the same food and talk about the same things. We never
get tired of having this time together. Now, if I could only get them to buy my breakfast.
Maybe one will in honor of my recent retirement. Or, maybe I should buy for both of
them in honor of our friendship.

Stop to Shop

My wife and went to Home Depot last night to look at a couple of things that we need.
A young lady helped us as we looked for what we needed. Every once in awhile I said
something that had her laughing so much she could hardly talk. As she walked on off
to help someone else, we went on our ways in the store.
As I was leaving, my wife went one way to pay for what we bought and I went another
way. The young lady asked where my wife was so I told her she had sent me to the
"Returns" counter to see if they would take me back. I told her WallMart would do
it since it was their policy. That's when she told me she could understand why my wife
would want to return me. I told her we had been married 40 years and my wife still
kept me for my good looks. She said, she keeps me because no one else would take
me. We both laughed as I left hoping my wife hadn't left me behind with this other
woman! She wouldn't do that, would she?

Raising Pot

I made a mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time yesterday afternoon.
When I went around to the front of our house I asked my wife what she was doing. I
knew then and there that I had goofted. She told me she wanted two large flower pots
moved from the front to the back of the house. Both are made of concrete.
So we removed dirt into the wheelbarrow and took it around back. Then we picked
up the smallest pot and took on outback. That's when she said she was ready to
go out to eat after we got cleaned up. I thought we were going to the Outback to
eat. Wrong! Instead we went to another place and the to Home Depot.
This morning I finished moving dirt and the larger flower pot without any trouble
at all. I'm sure she will get me to get it where she wants it before the day is done.
She has a way of doing that.
I have to say that she does real well with the flowers in our yard. In a short time
we're be admiring the flowers in those two big pots as we catch rest up before she
thinks of something else for me to do. Have to go,I hear her coming this way.

OVER THE HILL

I'm retired! I'm tired!! I'm not worth shooting on this Saturday afternoon!!! I'm watching
golf and going to watch the horse race as well. What a life! God is GOOOOOOD!!!!!! While
I still have to preach twice in the morning. This will be my first sermon since retiring so I
pray I can get the job done to the Glory of God.
Wednesday I am to preach at a retirement home. I may just look the place over and
stay awhile. Someone can preach to me. Lord knows, I need it!! I think I'll preach on
the subject, "How Did I Get Here?" I just hope I can remember to remember how to
get back home when I'm done. Maybe my wife will go with me and help an old retired
preacher go back to pasture.

A COUPLE OF COMMUNION STORIES

I made a mistake in serving communion yesterday morning that still has me laughing. I
squirt liquid soap on the hands of the three people who help serve the elements. We then
serve the juice and the bread to people as they pass by.
When I was squirting some soap onto the hands of a lady, enough came out to keep her
hands clean for weeks. I felt so bad that she had to start serving before she could even
clean the extra soap off her hands. But I had to do my part with my partner as people
passed our station. I was going to say how sorry I was for my mistake but the lady had
left already. I hope she comes back to help me again. I need all the help I can get.
This reminded me of a pastor who knew the people so well that he played a joke on a
man one Sunday as he served communion. When the man took the small cup of juice
and drank it, he started laughing out loud. The cup had Jello in it instead of juice. It
was so funny that he could hardly get up from the communion rail.
Years ago I had only one cup of juice left as I approached the end of serving but I
had two people yet to take communion. I wondered what I was going to do. All of
the sudden I realized it was a married couple so I simply ask then to share the
cup. They did and everything worked out well that time.
I also am amazed how some people take a big chunk of bread while some take as
small a piece as possible into the hands. As for me, hand me the whole loaf of wonder
bread! I can never, ever get enough of God's amazing grace!
