Something to Celebrate

While my wife and daughter are attending the contempoary service while I write
this blogg, I'm taking some "down time" before we go out to eat. I consecrated the
Communion at our 8:15 service and the headed home. I went out on the deck and
read the papers while drinking a couple of cups of coffee. It was a very relaxing
thing to do. I don't do this every Sunday because I like the contempoary service
but every once in awhile I just want "down time" for me, myself and I. Besides,
next Sunday I'll be preaching twice at a church across town.
It's hard to believe that this week is the week I retire. Thursday afternoon my
twin and I both will retire at Annual Conference. I've been preaching since 1965
and am not ready to stop now. It is an honor to lift up the Lord who lifts me up
again and again. Wednesday will be the day when minister's who have died since
last conference will be remembered in a service. My dad will be one of the names
called out. He died a year ago next month at age 96.
I thank God for my being able to keep on keeping on. While I have a hard time
walking, I want to keep going for as long as I can. After all, my wife and I will
celebrate being married 40 years August 9th and we have to celebrate that!
We're still walking together side by side. She helps hold me up as we walk
along the way called life.

UPDATE

Thank the Lord, I am through working at Wayne's house finally. I spent a couple more
hours at his house and have done all I can do out in the yard. Just wait till he gets the
bill for 8 hours of hard work!!
My wife and I went out to eat with a couple last night and had a great time. We told
stories and laughed so much that it wore me out. After we ate we went for a drive
in their new car. Now I've got to have one too! It's contagious. Maybe I can talk my
wife into it but I have my doubts. Well, I've got her, what else could I want. I hope
what I just wrote might touch her heart and she will change her mind. Not!
I've got to get going on my sermon for June 7th that I will preach twice. I think I've
just about got it ready but I need to work on it a little longer. They have to have my
info this week because the secretary will be out of the office next week.
Our daughter got back home last night from the Indy 500 race Sunday. She is so
worn out that she took today off to sleep. I can't balme her. They had a great time.
I did too, I watched the race on tv in my cool, quite home. I may be dumb but I'm
not stupid!
That is an update that is up to date.
ps: Wayne bought a car over the weekend. Maybe he will take me for a ride.

Been Busy

I went over to my younger brother's house yesterday and cut weeds behind his
house. I went back early today to clean up the mess I made. It was'nt too bad
when I started, but it got hotter and hotter while I worked. I rested from time
to time before coming back home. I have to go back again and finish the clean
up since I ran out of steam. most of the hard stuff is done. Thank the Lord! I'm
praying for rain so I can't clean it up.
Janice and I had a date last night at a Mexican resturant which we go to often.
Our waiter wasn't at our table, but a new waiter we hadn't seen before. He was
too slow to get drinks so our regular waiter slipped it and took care of us twice.
I need to give him an extra tip next time. As for the new guy in town, he was
quick to bring the bill. I did give him a good tip, brush your teeth daily. Just
kidding!
After the 8:15 service Sunday we may go hear a good friend preach at his
church. Or, we may go to a good resturant. Or, we may go see my good
friends, Barnes & Noble. I do know I will take a good long nap in the afternoon.
Our daughter is in Indy for the big race Sunday so we're taking care of her
dog, Derby. When I woke up this moring, I discoved that my wife was sleeping
in Jennifer's bedroom and Derby was sleeping with me, And I had thought that
was my wife snoring! All's well that ends well, they say. I say, Derby sleeps
with her tonight. I hope she doesn't read this or I just might be sleeping on
the couch. Again!!
I hope you have a safe Memorial Day weekend and remember the Vets who
have given us our freedom.

Back Home Again

My wife, younger brother and I had a great visit with my Step-Mother today.
What a day! What a woman! This 84 year old lady is so lovely an quick on her
toes. She can say something so quick in response to what someone else might
say. Most of the time it makes you laugh and laugh.
We had a wonderful time just talking to one another before she took us out to
eat. It brought back so many memories of eating at this country resturant
where we've eaten before. It's been almost a year since Dad died but I could
see him and hear him in my mind while we were there. It was one of his
favorite places to eat.
After we ate we went back to the house and went through some things in the
basement that need to be picked up some day and taken out of her basement.
While she said she isn't in a rush, I think it's time to clear things out of the
basement.
This was a day that we will remember for a long time to come. After all, it was
a day to be back home again. I hope she left the porch light on.

Relaxing in the Rain

I went to Barnes & Noble yesterday with my wife. While she was talking with a woman, I
read six books. Just kidding, I only read one and started on a second. I bought a book by
the grandson of Billy and Ruth Graham which I will start reading while it rains today.
After Barnes & Noble we went to a resturant and ate. I loved watching the people while
they ate. Most where with someone else, but one or two were all alone. The people who
own this resturant are very nice. They have great personalities and great food. The
atmosphere is relaxing and makes you want to take your time instead of being eating
in a rush.
Friday is when I get together with two friends for breakfast at a resturant near by. I
hope they have time to catch me up on what's going on in their lives. I always enjoy
being with Paul and Bob because they remind me what friendship is all about.
The coffee is ready so I'm heading to the swing on the front porch to start reading
another new book. Our daughter's dog, Derby, has to go with me because he doesn't
want to miss anything around here. While he barks at the birds, I'll read and relax.
Who knows, I may even count rain drops too. I just hope they don't fall on my head.

HUNTING IN HUNTING CREEK

There is a Hunting Creek yard sale Saturday that involves just about anybody from
this section of Bowling Green. This will be my 5th yard sale at this thing and very
few things have ever sold. I couldn't even give them away! We will put the same
things out again this time and pray that God will inspire people to purchase our
things as a real bargain.
What amazes me is how much other stuff others will drag home and pass by with
smiles on their faces as if to say, "look what we got for almost nothing!" Well, may
they be real happy with their stuff. As for me, I plan to "get lost" if I can before
the whole town shows up in Hunting Creek Subdivision. Maybe I can go across
town and find a real bargain there. Who knows?
By the way, I've got a truck and wagon for sale at a really low, low price. Talk
about a bargain, let me tell you...........and to boot, I will throw in two, not one,
but two dogs.....what do you say?

Andrew, Simon Peter's Brother

While I was doing therapy today, I was introduced to a woman. Before I could say
"Hello", she said, "Your Jennifer's father, aren't you?" She goes to the same church
we attend and knows Jennifer because she sings with the Praise Team in our 9:30
Contemporary service.
Before I could say anything else she said she knows my wife too. "It's a small
world, isn't it?" And now she knows me. I'm proud that people know my family
and speak highly of them. It makes my buttons snap right off my shirt I'm so
proud.
Most of all, I want everyone, everywhere to know Jesus. "Everybody ought to
know who Jesus is."

May Update

One of my brothers ask me if my wife knows about the May I spoke about in my last
blogg. Maybe she does and maybe she doesn't. I may tell her and I may not. Who
knows, she may read about May when she reads my blogg. Then I may be in big
trouble, again!
She may get my dog May to search for May before the month of May is history. If
she does, I may be history. I may search for May myself to protect myself. If I can
come across May, I'll tell May to get lost before the end of May or else. By the way,
May has a tattoo of a horse of her right foot in honor of the Kentucky Derby. So if
you see a woman with a tatoo on her right foot, it just might be May, then, maybe
not! All I know is that I may be in big trouble if that other woman who has a tattoo
on her right foot reads this. If she does, I'll get the boot! What do you think? I think
I better stop this thinking before I say something I shouldn't. By the way, have I told
you about April?

MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY!

MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY!!!
My dog named May ran away on this first day of May. May I go find May because May
may never come home again. By the way, I dated a girl named May but she split up
with me one May day. I didn't try to bring May back that May.
Maybe May will find May and bring her back to me before the end of May, what
do you say? I miss May, No. Not that May, my dog named May. May may stay
home if May comes home on this first day of May. That's what I say on this first
day of May.
I may be crazy on this first day of May but that's okay. Next month I will tell
you all about my bug June. Till then, have a great MAY DAY!
I may be crazy on this first day in May. What do you say? May I leave now?
Maybe I will and maybe I won't!
