A HOME RUN

Our daughter just drove in from Indy after seeing the Indy Race yestersday. She
stayed over to catch her breath before the drive home. While we didn't see her
on tv, we knew she was in the crazy crowd. DerbPie (her dog) is wagging hs
tail in celebration of having her home. he brought me six MARS BARS! She
knows how much I love them & her.
I better go hear all about the weekend so I don't miss the details of her being
at the Indy 500 again.

GET NAKED

I told somone at church yesterday that I had to huury home and walk naked before

the rain arrives. She looked at me as if I was crazy. Why,I don't know. I always walk

naked. I even like it to drive naked. I like to get naked! Naked is my dog.Excuse me,

I've got to go get Naked.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

I'm about to take our two dogs outside on a Saturday morning where our neighbors are
having a yard sale. It's to start at 7:00 but people are already looking things over and
it's only 6:15. Both of the dogs will bark, bark, bark until I bring them back in the house.
The people won't be able to be heard with two dogs barking at them. I'll bringthem back
inside after they do their thing.
My wife and I have to travel about a two hour drive to a funeral this afternoon. The
lady taught Sunday School when my wife was a young girl and left a lasting influence
on her life. Albany, Ky is near some lakes so I might go for a swim while she is at
the funeral home. Not! I'd be dead sooner than soon. Send flowers.
This has been a week of travel: Nashville, Somerset, Louisville & now Albany, Ky. I
hope we can catch our breath soon since I'm "on call" all of next week for the church
visitation. Maybe everyone will get out and stay out of the hospitals. I wish.

MY MISTAKE

I made a mistake by asking my wife what else I could do to help her around the house.
Before I could run for the hills, she handed me a long list of little (ha) jobs to be done. I
started by trimming a big bush beside the house. But she then told me to cut it way
back. What!
I was up and at it at 6:00 this morning hoping to beat the heat. I trimmed three big
bushes and then moved to the other side of our house and did one more big bush. I
picked everything up and the raked some leafs by a tree. Needless to say, I learned
my lessson. Don't ever ask such a silly question of the wife, men. She will tell you
far more than you want to know.

MYSTERY SOLVED

At the ending of another day, I'm out back on our deck looking at the changing
clouds high up in the sky. "Now you see it, now you don't" is what I'm thinking
as the clouds come and go so quickly. I see the sun going down on the other
side of the pine trees at the fence. What a sight!
I trimmed bushes early this morning before it got too hot to work with them.
After picking up and putting away, I was on my way to read and sip coffee
while reading a mystery that has me in it's grip. It amazes me that there are
so many myteries to read. Where do all these thoughts come from is a real
mystery to me. Then there are movies and tv shows, etc..
I needed a day like today. My wife and daughter were both in Nashville so
I did pretty much whatever I wanted and needed to do. I even baked a cake
for my family while they were gone. The mystery of the missing cake has me
wondering who slipped into the kitchen and had a big piece of it. But when I
followed the crumps though I found the Crum who did it, he was staring at me
in the mirror asking, "Got milk?" Guilty as charged! I say. Mystery solved.
Well, the sky is getting darker at dusk so I better go see if there is a good new
mystery on tv tonight for a tired old man whose bones are in need of some
Ben Gay at the close of a great day. I'll leave the porch light on for you.

A HOME RUN!

After my wife and I had painted our daughter's bed room, she told us it was way to dark.
That's what I had thought as I applied the paint she had selected. It was way to depressing
for me. So, being the nice parents of a loving daughter, my wife and I repainted her room
again yesterday. What a difference a day makes! The lighter color is a grand slam home run!
I hope we can retire from painting now and relax. Ha!
Saturday is the Hunting Creek yard sale where neighbors have items for sale and hundreds
of people show up attempting to buy a bargain. Not me! I'm out of here. Barnes and Noble,
here I come.
What I want to know is, who runs this home? I think I already know. It's not me. Excuse
me, my wife is calling.

MOTHER'S MOTHER DAY LETTER TO ME

Even though Mother's Day was last Sunday, I'm going to share some thoughts about
mother's at the Retirement Village in the morning . Since there are more women than
men who attend the monthly services, I think they will be ready to hear what I want
to say.
I'm going to share about a letter that I wrote 57 years ago to my mother. I will read
what I wrote to her and then read what she wrote about my letter. Four words are
written on the back side of my letter, "Very precious to me." Those four words are
very precious to me, to say the least. So many memories come to mind whenever I
remember Momma. What a woman. What a Mother. What a Christian who influenced
my life so very, very much! She still does whenever I think of her.
My prayer is that these woman (Mothers) will have many precious memories as they
reflect upon their long lives. I hope the three or four men will be blessed by what will
be said. I kow I will be, even if I say so myself.

THE BIRDS

A bird nest has been built on our front porch over the past few days. Whenever I want
to read while on our swing, birds swoop down at me. I just hope they don't drop any
bombs my way! I'll leave them alone if they will leave me alone. I'll even go out back
to the deck to protect their babes.

TROUBLED WATERS

When I was starting out of our subdivision today, I had to make a u-turn due
to water over the street. I didn't drive through it because I didn't want to be
struck or send waves of water higher into a near by house. I'm amazed at
how high the water was and how fast it takes place. I drove that way just
yesterday without water being a problem at all.
When I see the thousands of homes and places under water, I send up a
prayer for all those dear people and their problems. I'm moved by the
people who seek to provide any help they can for people they may not
even know. It makes me want to do more for others as well.
I'm glad to see the sun instead of rain so that the waters can reside and
things dry out. Then there is all the clean up to be done. Wow! May
they be given added strength through it all.
Give thanks for what you have during these days of troubled waters.

I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE & I DID!

Years ago when I was pastor of Broadway UMC, an elderly lady was going out
the glass door when all of the sudden she said, "I thought I was going to die
and I did!" When I asked her what she had said, she said she was going into
a store with a revolving door and almost fell down.
Well, today I haven't felt well. I thought I was going to die and did! I have
coughed enough to be placed in a coffin. I sure hope Saturday is much better
than today. If you see my name in the obits, please give to my memorial so
I can pay for the casket.
I'm going back to bed now so I can sleep this thing off. Night-night.

THE RACER & THE SLOW POKE

I bought a book by a co-worker of Randy Pausch who wrote, The Last Lecture in 2008. He has
since died. The Comet & The Tornado is about how Don Marinelli and Randy Paush were so
different in so many ways and yet were able to work together so very, very well.
Since I'm only on page 50, I'm not sure what else there is to say just yet. But I have an idea
I'll soon see some things that should help the readers to seek to work well with others. We
all could learn that lesson, couldn't we?
My twin brother and I are a lot alike yet I'm the microwave and he is the crock pot. I'm
off to the races while he hasn't even decided to race or not. I'm always early and he is
always late. I go to be early & get up early while he goes to bed late and gets up late.
Maybe this book will help us to see why we are as we are. The only trouble is, he will
never get around to reading it!
I think I'll write a book about the two of us. How about, The Racer & The Slowpoke?

Dr, Coomer, I Presume

I've always wanted to work on getting a doctrate degree but due to health, haven't. But now
I can take a short cut and get one at age 66. It's on-line. I want a doctrate in Popcorn making.
My daughter tells me I make the best popcorn of all because I do it the old fashion way. I
think she is telling me I'm old fashioned. She told me that Derby (dog) wanted me to make
some a few minutes ago. As I type this, I'm eating popcorn popped by Dr. Pop!
I atttended the 8;15 service this morning and headed home to go out back to the deck to
read two newspapers. It was a real pleasure doing being where I wanted to be, doing what
I wanted to do. After the family got home I thought we would go to Outback to eat. I was
wrong. Again. I went to Barnes & Noble and read before heading home & to bed to take a nap.
After all, my pastor preached about doing just that. I'm told it was a great sermon, I slept
through it. Just kidding. But I did say "amen" when he said what he said when he said what
he said.
Since I'll soon be a Doctor, tell me again where you said it hurts? That will be $766.

A GREAT DAY

My wife and I attended a book fair here in Bowling Green where we saw several
writers displaying their books. The highlight of the day was hearing and meeting
Richard Paul Evans who wrote The Christmas Box several years ago. He spoke
about his new book, The Walk. I have read it and think it a great book. He has
more books coming in the series about a man walking across America.
Living within 3 miles of the location of the book fair is a great thing for us since
we like going to it each year. Being in Bowling Green is a blessing because of
being able to see so many people and activities weekly. Attending Broadway
UMC is extra special for our family. It's our home church now that I'm retired.
I missed going to Barnes & Noble today so I plan to go after church and start
reading another new book. I used to hate to read, now I love doing it daily. I
often wonder why I don't write one myself. Richard Paul Evans to us to do it
if we feel we should or it will never get done. Who knows, I may just take him
up on it!

The Walk

A few days ago while I was at Barnes & Noble I started reading The Walk by Richard Paul Evans.
Since then I've read a few pages of it whenever I was able. Today I bought the book for two reasons.
First, it is a really good book. Second, Evans will be in Bowling Green Saturday and I want to meet
him and thank him for the book. I also want to tell him that I look forward to other books in the
series.
Evans book has gotten me to thinking about my personal walk in this joureny of life. I ask myself,
How did I get here? And, where am I going? Reflecting on what Evans has written, I know that I
need to give much more thought to the walk I'm taking. Maybe I should jot down some of the
places I've been as well as some of the places I'd like to go.
Have a safe walk as you travel forward step by step. Keep the SON in your eyes, friends.

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Since today my wife has a birthday, I took her and our daughter out for breakast. I even
went with them to the farmer's market to boot. The two of them are going shopping now
that they dropped me off back at home. Golf gets going before much longer which will
take up the rest of my afternoon. Our son is heading home after he gets off from work
tonight. We will attend church as a family Sunday and then go out to eat again.
I thought about going to Barnes & Noble today but knew I needed and wanted to be
with my family. I may go Sunday afternoon before watching more golf. It depernds
on how the game goes today. I'm reading a new book about a young man who walks
across America after his wife dies and his work goes down the drain. I hope to meet
the author next Saturday at a book fair here in Bowling Green.
We have the Master bedroom painted and hope to finish the last bedroom next week.
The walls are that are left since I've done the woodwork already. Then we will move
our daughter to that room and make her old room our home office. There is light at
the end of the tunnel. Not much and not bright but let there be light.

Happy Easter

Untill I can determine how to do this better, I'm off duty. Have a great Easter,

OPEN WIDE

I just retured from the dentist and it isn't even 9:00 a.m. yet. That was a quick $144 for having
a filling but I feel better. Barnes & Noble isn't even open yet so I'm at my home office desk drinking coffee. One side of my mouth is still numb so I can't feel the coffee in my big mouth.
What a wonderfull day to be outside. I made a mistake of not getting coffee and stopping by
the lake on my way home. The ducks wondered why I drove on by without even waving. I
thiink I heard one call me a quack! No crackers for Silvester today. I may take my coffee and
go out back to the deck and drink coffee while reading a new book. Since I'm wounded from the
dental work, I can't work yet. Ouch! It even hurts to think about it. Therefore, I'm not going
to think anymore. It hurts too much. Ouch!
I dropped my dental floss yesterday and Derby got to it before I could. He now has clean teeth.
The dentist got a good laugh out of it too. Derby likes the peppermint taste of it. His smile is
even better.
Yesterday we went to Nashville, Thursday we travel to Elizabethtown to see an aunt and then
Friday we take Derby for grooming. It sure beats painting here at home. Trouble is, is still has
to get done one of these days. Hey, Janice!
"Open wide" must mean the billfold not the mouth since I spent so much money when the
dentist picked my pocket. Talk about pain!

(when I read this after posting it, I think the shot made me silly. Maybe I need to be shot!)

on call

I spent most of yesterday at the Medical Center while a member of our church was having surgery. Since this is my week on call, I got the call. Today may not be as busy for me as of
this moment. I am about to check on Clint when I go see him today.
I sure liked seeing the sun yesterday , didn't you? Now I want to see big blue win their game
tonight. I am watching the NIT games as well. There are so many good teams anymore.
There is a new mystery I wish to start reading son now that I,ve finished one. Maybe I can
slip by Barnes & N0bel before the day is over.
I better get going.

I had to see my dentist today and have follow up next week. What fun!
Supper is on so I am gone!

laptop on my glass desk

This is my first blog on our new laptop so I might make many mistakes. Our computer isn't working well so we have to have a friend repair it soon.
I had lunch today with a friend who is moving soon. I sure will miss being with him from time
to time. I went to Barnes & Noble for a cup of coffee and a few minutes reading from a couple
of books before returning home.
It is time for watching The Tonight Show with some new guy, Jay something. Hope he has a
good show. So, goodnight.
